    Hi,

I was wondering if it is possible to buy a unlocked phone and use a prepaid sim card from t-mobile in it?

    Thanks!

Sure, as long as it is a GSM phone that supports both 850 and 1900 bands. This is actually what I intend to do.

You don't strictly need 850 MHz, but I also recommend you get a dual band phone because it will have better service with T-Mobile's roaming partners.

I use my T-Mobile SIM in an unlocked Rogers Nokia 6590i. Works fine.

Just curious, where did you buy your unlocked phone and sim card? Right now, it seems eBay is the only place to go to both of them for a decent price (I'm looking to buy a SE W810i). I'm just hesitant to do so because of some of the feedback sellers have gotten, however sparse. For example, one buyer complained that the phone he received had half of the keys in Arabic. :/

I wish there was an established store (Newegg, Amazon, etc) that sold unlocked/unbranded cells at decent prices. As it is, eBay prices are easily $50+ below any other site.

I had the phone already. It was the phone I used on Rogers here in Canada before I got my RAZR V3. I kept it because I have a car kit for it, but it also makes a great phone to use for my T-Mobile SIM since it's dual band.

The SIM I got off eBay. I paid $5 for the SIM and about $7 for shipping (which is nuts because it cost less than a buck to mail ) but the total was fair and that's what I based my bid on. I got $29.80 in airtime credit with a mid-February expiry, and an area code 323 number (which I can change but I am not bothering). I got a $100 airtime card for it that I will put on the phone in February so that I get the one-year expiry and Gold Rewards.

PM me if you want my seller's eBay ID. You'll likely get a Los Angeles number too since he's in that area.
