Activation Code on line?

I live in Canada and travel in the States from May to September. Last year I bought a T-Mobile prepaid phone to use there and to call back to Canada and it worked great.

As I don't use it in the winter in Canada the SIM card and phone number were purged after 90 days etc.

In prep for going south again next month I asked a friend to pick up a new SIM card for me while in WA state and a $10 card for some minutes. I thought I was good to go however today I found that I also need an Activation Code.

When I go south in May I'd like to cross the border and then carry on without stopping for a T-Mobile kiosk.

Is there anyway I can get an Activation Code for my phone from Canada?

Plan B: If this isn't possible then if I got a friend in the states to buy the T-Mobile Sim Card/Activation on their website for 1.99 free shipping once he received that could he just email me the Activation Code on the card and then I could use that code with the new SIM card I just received or would that Activation Code be 'linked' to the SIM card that was sent with it. I'm just trying to save time and avoid him mailing it up to me etc.....

It sounds like you need an unlock code. What phone is the sim going into?
