I'd like to buy an unlocked motorola L6. Will it work correctly on Fido network (L6 is 900/1800/1900 Mhz and Fido network is 850/1900) or is it better to buy the L7 (even though I don't want a music phone).

It will work but only on the 1900 band. You will find a noticable difference in call quality/signal comparing a phone with and without 850MHz. I personaly only use phones with the 850 band although if you are mostly in the city and have positive experience with 1900MHz only go for it.
