Fido - right for me?

I'm looking for a Canadian cell phone plan that I can get started on right away. I'm 17 years old, living away from home and my parents will not sign a cell phone contract for me since they do not know I'll be in Canada for X years.

The most important thing I'm looking for is texting-- and the ability to do lots of it. I liked the look of Fido's $16 value plan fido[dot]ca/portal/en/packages/value_packs.shtml but I don't know if I'll be in Canada for 3 years.

If I happen to move away from Canada, how easy would it be to find someone to transfer this contract to? Also, if I have to be 18 to sign the contract it would complicate things but I can't find such information on their site.

So if a contract plan is not good for me, does anyone know of a prepaid plan that charges monthly or just doesn't charge $.15 per text message (that's what Rogers charges)? I don't see myself needing to do much voice calling.

Fido prepaid is about the same rate as Rogers.

Rogers bought Fido a year or two back.
You can probably get away by bringing in someone older and say thats you're guardian while signing the contract. But they have to trust you and you have to trust them cause the bill would be mailed to him/her.

I would prefer a plan, because I text a lot too, but texting is way to expensive without a plan. For 10$ you can get 2500 text messages, (then if you go over its an additional .15cents per text)

If you move away from Canada, its kind of hard to find someone tot ake over, unless someone really needs a cell phone right away.
You'd have to offer them your phone plus cash, most likely at least 100$
Or you can just take the cancellation fee from the provider.
