Switch to iPhone - plan question

So... I've got a dilemma.

I want to get an iPhone, but i'm not sure if it's the right time for my contract.
I've got a 2 year contract and it ends in June of next year. I want to get an iPhone 3GS and I have 143 Fido dollars. However... The question is if it's the right choice to abort my contract now and hand over 240 bucks for the contract fee. The fido dollars only covers 3/4th of the phone so i'll have to pay about 50 bucks for it. Keep in mind that this is the 8gigabyte one. so in total it comes to about 290, without a new contract or data plan.


It's probably a no, right?

When you have 6 months remaining on your contract you are eligible for a phone upgrade (or so I was told today). I would recommend waiting it out.

Unless...
Call and find out the details if you switch. You may be able to switch to the iphone with a data plan and not have to cancel your contract. I believe this is true if you have an old plan with SAF.

Good Luck, the iPhone is the best device in the world. I could not live without it.
