Phone Spoofing

I just learned what Phone Spoofing is.......and I am a bit ticked off.
Someone has been calling my phone and the only thing that shows in the
Caller I.D. is " 213 ".....and I called to talk to a rep about it and
apparently I have fallen victim to being called on a NUMBER of occasions by
a prankster who only identifies themself as " 213 ". So, I got an
extender for my ring......and now the prankster can use up their spoof
minutes listening to my cell phone do nothing but ring ring ring.

Anyone else heard of this?

When I get a phone call from someone I don't know I put him in my phone book
after the first time under the name 'Don't Answer'. That might not stop him
completely since there's nothing saying he can't change the number he uses
(especially if he uses a service like spoofcard.com) but he'll more than
likely get bored quick having to change his number every time he tries to
call you.

Most Nextel phones are set to ring 4 times and then go to voicemail. For
people who can't get to their phone quick enough, Nextel offers a free
service to set the phone to ring longer than the standard 4 times. When I
called them about the "213" issue, and we came to the conclusion that it was
someone spoofing their call, we decided to let the phone ring longer and use
the spoofer's pre-paid minutes.....so my phone will probably just ring maybe
20 times or so....no one has called today, so I don't know how long it will
keep ringing before going to voice mail.

You're Welcome. Glad I could help. By the way, I do this for wrong numbers
too. Sometime ago a lot of women kept calling me asking for some other guy.
I got the impression that he gave them a my phone number knowing it was
wrong so I called Sprint and after that the calls stopped. Not sure what
they did or it was a coincidence.
