I was wondering about this, I'm basically talking about linking/syncing
the two together and possibly using my cellphone providers internet
signal on the n800 and other apps on it? I've heard of it being done and
compatible with the 770, But I was just wondering which would be my best
bet is... The n800's additional camera would be a nice lil extra, Before
I made a hard decision on purchasing I'd like to get others input,
advice and what not so thanks in advance...

I would prefer n770 nokia mobile because of its design and slimness and
    related to weight terms also.

The N800 is out of production. Good luck on finding one. The N810 and
WiMax N810 are the current models.....

I have three N800's running under Maemo OS2008 Diablo, the lastest free
upgrade to the N800/N810 operating system. The new OS no longer
requires PC flashing to upgrade. It upgrades itself as well as its apps
through the wifi or bluetooth internet connection.

You're curious about linking. Any Bluetooth phone whos carrier will
allow Bluetooth DUN tethering on a phone capable of tethering with
Bluetooth DUN (Dial Up Networking) is a fully functional internet
connection for the N800/N810 Linux tablets. I'm using a Motorola ROKR
Z6m on Alltel EVDO/CDMA as my mobile internet provider when free wifi
is not available. Alltel provides, over the Bluetooth DUN link, about
700-900Kbps speed over this link. Of course, any wifi is much faster.
4Kbps to 5Kbps over wifi seems about normal on the tablet's very
sensitive wifi transceiver. The N800 will connect to, and use, wifi
signals my Gateway laptop's wifi can't even detect! It's the most
sensitive wifi gadget I own. I can sit in a restaurant and use wifi
from the hotel next door, and do.

You spoke of "syncing" with your phone. There won't be any "syncing"
    with anything. The N800/N810 isn't a PDA. It's a fully functional
Linux computer running under a compact version of Debian Linux that is
open sourced by Nokia and available to anyone who is smart enough to
modify it. That was the whole idea. Nokia handed the Linux hackers
this great little tablet and said, "Here! You guys figure out what to
do with it." The results, including the continuous, ongoing evolution
of the Maemo Linux saga is located here:
    http://www.maemo.org/
Today's app counter says there are 251 user-ready apps for free
    downloading:
    http://maemo.org/downloads/OS2008/
many, many more are back in the "Garage" in the mechanic's bays being
worked on by teams of Linux geniuses from around the world. Many Linux
programs from several Linux distributions have been ported to the
tablet's OS like Abiword, the free, full featured Linux word processor
that rivals Micro$oft Word in everything but price. Gnumeric, Linux's
finest complex spreadsheet is ported to the tablet. Garnet, the people
who bought the Palm OS from Palm, Inc., have built a "Garnet Virtual
Machine" for the tablet you can download free and run. This opens up
the little tablets to run, in larger-than-PDA-portrait-mode, all 55,000
of your favorite Palm OS apps, including all the stock PDA apps Palm is
famous for....right inside the little Linux box....It even makes the
appropriate sounds and the letter tablet is fully functional.

The easiest way to browse all 251 current apps for Diablo version is by
    browsing down this list:
    http://maemo.org/downloads/updated/OS2008/275/
This causes the server to look for 275 user ready apps and the server
must access every one so it takes a few seconds for it to compile and
present to you. The sort order is the newest updated app at the top and
the last updated app at the bottom. There is no way to sort it
alphabetically or by process. The apps on:
    http://maemo.org/downloads/os2008 have a category-related catalog.

Never throw away an old game cartridge! The Maemo genius hackers have
several "virtual machines" to run game cartridge software from previous
and current game consoles, if that's your interest.

Skype, Gizmo, Fring and some other VoIP programs have special Maemo
ports for IM and full duplex telephone communications.

Any Bluetooth GPS receiver extends the N800 to a fully functional
navigation device. Nokia bought Wayfinder, a commercial voice
navigation system for its phones and Linux tablets. In OS2008, it's
called MAP and you get to test it before purchasing. The hackers were
unsatisfied with the results, which are pretty plain like a Garmin dash
unit, so they wrote Maemo Mapper to integrate the tablet/GPS combo with
Google Earth, Virtual Earth, Terraserver, Runway Finder (turns the
tablet into a fully functional aviation chart plotter in realtime), Open
Maps and any mapping system that uses these same tiling standards. The
hiker hackers were still unsatisfied so they wrote, and just released
    HIKE:
    http://maemo.org/downloads/product/OS2008/hike/
Instead of using net-available map tiles, Hike allows you to make YOUR
OWN by simply taking a jpg picture of ANY kind of map or aerial photo
you can identify at least two lat/long points on to calibrate your GPS
position to the picture of the map! I've taken a marine chart book,
taken pictures of the chart pages, calibrated 3 points for HIKE to store
its calibration data on, and now have a large collection of marine
charts in my pocket with FULL GPS PLOTTING on them! Way cool....It's as
accurate as the most expensive $4000 GPS chart plotter on the yachts I
    sail on.

Best of luck with your new N800. I prefer the N800 to the N810 because
it uses full-sized SDHC cards. I have several 16GB A-data Class 6 SDHC
memory cards I use between the tablet and my Windows and Linux boxes on
the desktop. The N810 only has one microSD removeable card, the 2nd
card is fixed inside. The N810's keyboard is useless to "type on".
Luckily, other hardware hackers have been on the lookout for us.

There are great new hardware accessories from Canada on:
    http://www.electronicproductonline.c...hp?cPath=35_67
Notice the OTG USB adapter. This one device hardware switches the mini
USB port on the tablet to OTG HOST mode so you can plug in any USB hard
drive, USB DVD/CD reader (but no software yet for writing), USB
keyboards for REAL typing of REAL word processing, self-powered USB hubs
to increase the tablet's ability to use multiple USB accessories, even
the Linksys USB-Ethernet tiny adapter that will let you connect the
tablet DIRECTLY to your router for even faster data access without the
RF link slowdowns. The headphone jack, for instance, has an
undocumented MICROPHONE connection in it and these guys sell a pigtail
so you can plug in and use with the VoIP programs a full stereo comm
headset for Skype or Gizmo...complete with headphone mic input. Works
fantastic. Check them out after getting your tablet.

Install mplayer, Linux's best video player that will play almost
anything. Install KMPlayer as a front end to mplayer after that because
KMPlayer is where WorldTV99 app installs its self-updating World TV
station playlist! Of course, US TV is all locked down so you can't
watch it, but who cares. France 24 English and SkyNews are the news
channels (no spam!) and Russia Today is also amusing to watch. There
are many English channels to watch from across the planet...right on the
    tablet....even over Sellphone provided internet.

StreamTuner app gives you a few thousand radio stations on Xiph and
Shoutcast to listen to. Who needs to pay XM/Sirius? How silly.
Streamtuner automates and has your own favorite station bookmarks,
playing the video and audio through mplayer video/audio app.

Well, that will get you started....The tablet is VERY addictive.

Do try to be kind to Iphone users who, at first, will heckle you for
your N800, but become converts rather easily as you boot up that new
movie someone posted to alt.binaries.movies.divx into mplayer and watch
in full resolution on the N800's 800 pixel wide screen. Screen rotation
    is no match for the latest thriller at your table at McDonalds....(c;

Every N770 user will be more than happy to let you have a real bargain on
this obsolete, far-less-capable, equipment. $50 is a fair price in perfect
condition. N770 is NOT capable of running the latest Maemo OS and software
and is NOT capable of being upgraded.

You'll be sorry you ever got it, now.
