Is it possible to send mp3 to cell phone?

    I mean:
    1. Are all cell phones capable of playing mp3 files?
    2. If not, what brands & models do offer that feature?
    3. How does one get an mp3 file into such a phone?
    Via cable? (USB? proprietary?)
Via email? (i.e. as an SMS?) - if so, how?

I am pretty new to the area of cell phones, so forgive me if some of my
questions expose ignorance on my part.

    Thanks!
    Lynn

Lynn, you'll find some that will play an MP3, that's true. However,
cellular phone companies have a LONG history of DISABLING manufacturer's
built-in features so they can SELL you some service you didn't need in the
first place. (Look around at the class action suits brought by Verizon
    Wireless bluetooth owners with Google.)

Even the finest cellphone MP3 players are VERY limited, especially in
capacity to store songs, as MP3 playing is just a marketing gimmick to sell
the phones. You're much better off with a dedicated MP3 player made to
play them (one that doesn't say Ipod on it is NOT a sin). Currently, the
tiny Sandisk Sansa players have my vote because they plug into anyone's USB
port to download or upload your MP3 files WITHOUT some special RIAA
licensing scheme software to check every song. You open your LINUX file
handler of choice and just copy the files to the sansas and they play them
all in mp3 or wma format. The FM radio is an added feature....

Use your cellphone for a PHONE. It's all it's good for.

Evan and Larry - thank you very much for your answers.

Evan - when you say "depends on the phone" does this mean that there
are cell phones that can receive MP3 files as attachments, via
email/SMS, thus not requiring any cable?

If so, this must be the wave of the future, right?

    Thanks,
    Lynn
