I just read a post on RF concerns from Cell Towers.
I truly think that having a cell tower nearby is MUCH healthier than
using a cell phone in a fringe area. I think I'd steak my life on it.
A cell phone transmitting 600mW next to my head is probably like a
1,000 watts transmitting 100 feet away. Cell towers are not that much
more powerful than a cell phone. They just need to 'Hear' good. Being
close to a cell tower knocks the cell phones' power WAY back.

Ah, we go again....
Sellphones haven't radiated 600 mw in a long time...since they went to
digital. We did hold 300mw for a while, but that only lasted until they
got the minitowers installed closer together in the cities. Now, you're
lucky if the toyphone in your hand is capable of radiating
150mw....probably 120mw...almost no power at all.
This was done for a couple of reasons...battery runtime and sellphone
profits. The more people we can put on the air per square mile in a
system, the more money we can make. Simple. To do this we must
eliminate interference between the much closer spaced cells by reducing
the range of the sellphone in your hand. Slowly, we got you to accept a
phone with a smaller and smaller then finally no antenna at all. We took
away your external antenna connector so you couldn't connect up to a
serious antenna in your car. So, what you now have in your hand is a
powerless peanut whistle that barely can make a tower 2 miles away with
its crappy PC board "antenna" inside the case packed up against the
circuits. YOU are on one side of the circuits, the side towards the
keyboard. The little antenna radiating almost no RF power at all, is on
the other side and in the shadow of the PC board the phone is made from.
If it had any real power, it would just screw the electronics in the
computer it's mounted right on top of. It doesn't, any more.
The tower is so far away from you the inverse square law that says the
field strength at any point from a radiating antenna drops by the inverse
square of the distance. Double the distance, 1/4 the power. Triple the
distance, 1/9th the power...etc. The digital sellphone tower, again so
as not to cross too far into adjacent cells, runs with lots less power
than they used too in AMPS days, too. You'd be hard pressed to measure
any field strength without a good receiver...like your sellphone.
RF is only dangerous if it HEATS your flesh, which is resistive and
converts RF energy into the heat that makes your microwave oven work.
The oven in your kitchen on 2450 Mhz is thousands of times more power
than your sellphone ever was. That's what makes it cook.
In the open air, there are thousands of really powerful RF emitters far
more powerful than the RF field your sellphone radiates against your ear.
The average UHF TV transmitter is radiating the effective radiated power
from about 2 to 25 MEGAwatts! Every FM broadcast transmitter runs
100,000 watts on 100 Mhz. AM broadcast stations run from 1000 to 50,000
watts into a very serious directional antenna array.
If you boot Google Earth and look around Hamburg, NY, you can find WWKB-
AM's 3-tower 50,000 watt blowtorch that used to be WKBW, Western NY's
best rock 'n roll station when I lived in NY. Zoom Google Earth in on
the EAST tower...the main lobe of it radiation...and 155 FEET from the
business end of one of the most powerful AM stations in the country is a
HOUSE FULL OF PEOPLE! I don't see how they can get the flourescent
lights to go off so they can sleep! The radiation inside that house is
INTENSE....VERY INTENSE. I worked in broadcasting in fields like that
for 20 years. I'm 62 and all the parts are still right where they're
supposed to be...albeit a little worn and achy not related to RF.
You're fine. The radar from the cop car you just past is lots more
dangerous and he's sitting right in the path of the RF trying to keep you
from seeing it...frying his brains every day....

Well, if that doesn't explain a lot!
