With the introduction of the iPhone 3gS, I want to know what you think. Do you think the phone is worth the the hype?

The iPhone 3G and 3GS have the same battery. Meaning Same Talk time, same standby time. Both have the same 24-bit, 16.7 million TFT/TFD Color LCD Screen

The 3Gs is .2mm thinner, and 2 grams lighter than the 3G.

Processor Speed on the 3gS is rated at between 600Mhz and 612Mhz. The 3G is 412Mh (which is actually 120Mhz slower than the iPod Touch)

Internal memory is now max at 32GB, which is twice the max space on the 3G.

Updated are the GPS, 2.1 Bluetooth support, better Packet Data technology. Nice addition is the "Shake to Shuffle" feature, which my Sony Ericsson w580i has.

But the biggest hype is the new OS capabilities.
Such as Copy and Paste, Rotate Landscape Keyboard (about time, I might add!), voice memos, better search, and a few other addons.

Question is: Is the 3gS worth the money?
If you have an iPhone 3G, you can upgrade the OS from Apple/iTunes to 3.0 and gain most of the features. Granted, the processor and memory won't be upgraded, but you can get the MMS; landscape keyboard; cut, copy and paste functions.

Is this phone a great leap forward by Apple? Or do you think it's just their way of pushing another iPhone, slightly upgraded, to try to stay on top of the game for a short time?

I'm very interested in what people have to say about this.

I think the iPhone 3GS is worth it for the first time buyers or owners of the first generation iPhone. For the iPhone 3G owners I don't believe it is worth the upgrade.

    Just my 2 cents.

My understanding is that the 3Gs offers a couple things the 3G doesn't offer. That is for a non-jailbroken phone.

The 3Gs offers video recording, compass, and voice dialing that I know of. The video recording and voice dialing are ALMOST worth it for me. I actually offered my wife my 3G phone and if she takes it I'll get the 3Gs. Otherwise, I'm not spending alot of money on an upgrade.

From what I have read, the Voice Dialing and Video recording are all the OS. You can upgrade your 3g to the 3.0 software and get those features.

Re: iPhone 3g vs 3gs - Worth the Upgrade?

True, But I have a 3G thats jailbroken soI can do ALL the things the 3Gs can. I admit it is faster but My 3G works JUST as fast. Voice command ISNT all that of a Big deal, Since I have Vlingo and it does the same, voice dailing and voice searches on the Net. Sure it doesn't have the ipod controls but thats why I like Blue tooth. So really when u weight it sure the 3GS is a Nice phone, BUT @ $299 I'd wait just to see if the price goes down.

iphones are the best phones... my only reason for upgrading would be to be able to record video, but everything else is the same on 3g
