I'm thinking about purchasing a used CDMA iPhone 4 previously running on Verizon towers. My plan is to use it on my Straight Talk account that I currently use with a Samsung Galaxy phone. I know Straight Talk will not allow me to use the iPhone for the BYOP (Bring Your Own Phone) program.

If I were to flash the iPhone, would I then be able to use it on Straight Talk?

I apologize if this topic has been discussed before, I just wanted a clear answer from a knowledgable source before I make the purchase.

Also, what exactly does a "flash" do on a phone? Does it convert the CDMA band in anyway?

    Thank you all,
    -B.

You shouldn't have to flash anything - just make sure it's unlocked and you should be good to go.

As I mentioned earlier, it was used under a two year contract with Verizon previously. That means it's NOT unlocked, correct?

How do I go about unlocking it?

Actually, now that I think about it, the Verizon iPhone 4 can't be unlocked in the traditional sense since it doesn't have a SIM card at all. (the Verizon 4s has GSM/CDMA radios, so it has a SIM and can be unlocked)

So, I believe it's up to Straight Talk whether they activate it on their network or not. I've read that some have been able to do this, while lately they've been turning down iPhones. I would call them and say you want to activate a CDMA phone - don't mention it's an iPhone. They should ask for the ESN number.
