Sprint possibly looking to sell off its iDEN network
News by Michael Oryl on Friday August 08, 2008.
CNBC is reporting that Sprint Nextel is in talks to sell off its iDEN network to either NII Holdings or a group of private equity investors. CNBC's sources tell them that such a deal is likely still months away, but that the talks are by no means merely informal discussions. The deal supposedly would be extremely complex due to the integration between Sprint's CDMA and iDEN networks and would likely involve long term service agreements between Sprint and whatever entity ends up buying the iDEN network - if it even happens.
NII Holdings, formerly Nextel International, owns and operates iDEN networks under the Nextel brand in several Latin American countries, including Mexico and Brazil.
All of this is, of course, only rumor and Sprint has yet to make any formal comment.

From what I heard, Sprint decided to keep the iden network. This is why the $50 monthly unlimited plan arised. They figured lets keep it and help Boost iden grow.

Re: IDEN SELLOFF, is the $50 REALLY a good deal?
Sprint can't sell Nextel until 2011. It's 2009. If you got another carrier and you'll pay more for unlimited, btw, in 2 years you'll have paid more with the other company than you would have with Boost. Even if it was with Nextel. Now lets say Sprint did sell Nextel in 2011...with all that money you saved having Boost for those 2 years you could go out and BUY a brand new unlocked phone of whatever manufacturer you wanted. Even a blackberry.
Sprint can say it's going to sell as much as it wants...but legally it can't until 2011. So save these posts for then. Then we can all panic about Y2K...i mean the sell-off.
And i do like how nothing in the body of the first post had anything to do with $50 being a good deal. Technically if you went to Nextel and got the Simply Everything Unlimited plan you'd pay twice as much for the same service. Is THAT really worth it?Last edited by arp734; 05-31-2009 at 01:20 PM.
