I don't use the QWERTY key-board, as far as i'm concern... the phone would of been perfect without it.. what can i say, that's marketing.

Re: The Droid Review... IN REAL TIME

Here are 40 tips about using the DROID.

    Check them out...

    1. Make the most of your space by using widgets--dynamic programs that operate right on your home screen. Simply hold your finger on any open space, and then select Widgets from the pop-up menu. Widgets come in a huge variety of sizes and functions, so search the Android Market to find what works for you.

    2. Prefer not to be bothered by a sound every time an e-mail arrives? Head into Gmail's Settings menu and set its ringtone to Silent. You'll still see new-message alerts in the notification panel at the top of your screen, and you can always pull the panel down to get detailed information. You can configure text messaging and other alert-generating apps the same way.

    3. Set up one-touch dialing for the people you call the most. Hold your finger on an open space and select Shortcuts. Then, touch Direct dial and pick the person from your contact list. If one-touch texting is what you crave, use the Direct message option instead.

Re: The Droid Review... IN REAL TIME

I found this move to be useful at any given time, you know when someone is going to call and you don't want to talk to him/her, or you can't take a return call due to current and temporary circumstances, try this.

Go to that chosen contact, then press MENU, and TAP options, then choose " SEND CALL DIRECTLY TO VOICEMAIL " your phone will NOT ring/vibrate.

Sometimes you just don't want to engage in conversation at a particular time.

Re: The Droid Review... IN REAL TIME

Here's a hint... and try it yourself...

If your sending a photo with Gmail, or any mail account, make sure you close as many Apps as possible.

As i was Sending holiday photos, i sent two separate email photos, one right after another. My GMAIL was in the process of sending the emails for awhile, i switch from 3G to WiFi, and GMAIL still kept sending, i then use my ADVANCE APP KILLER and killed as many Apps as possible without interfering with GMAIL, my emails were sent momentarily after killing Apps.

So if your sending emails, especially with photos/attachments... make sure you kill as many Apps as possible FIRST for a faster process/sending... and less of a drain on your battery.

    TEST THIS YOURSELF

Anyone considering this phone should realize they're getting a very cool data device and a mediocre phone. I went through 3 in my trial period. Lot's of problems. Finally reactivated my antique Samsung PDA. Delighted to have clear voice quality again, but I miss all the wonderful features.

Re: The Droid Review... IN REAL TIME

A little tip i found by accident, press and hold down the the smile face key on the touch screen keyboard... this will prompt a screen with punctuation mark options.

I now find the DROID a breeze to use, as i have what i need on my DROID i find it a very simple phone to use. if i had one thing to correct on the DROID right now it would be a screen lock option.

I find when i'm in a App like texting or GPS/Maps, or any App, the screen is sensitive and switches/engages to easily. Maybe an App should require a DOUBLE TAP, like if your in an App and handle the DROID... it will take you on a wild screen ride...lol

Re: The Droid Review... IN REAL TIME

Droid And Intergrading Your Life’s Activities…

As I search and read about the problems of DROID owners, I can’t help to realize the painful efforts with intergrading the DROID, or any cell phone into your daily life’s activities.

I then think about the needs and wants of what we actually need on our phones, I guess its just me and my age or something because I keep my DROID as simple as I need it to be. I don’t use it for music, I just burn a CD off my iTunes and play it in my car, I have Satellite Radio, so I rarely listen to CD’s, I don’t watch movies on my DROID, I like watching movies on my 52 inch Plasma TV in surround sound… why would I need to watch a movie on a 3 inch screen with tiny speakers.

I read about the torching efforts of syncing email accounts on the DROID beside the standard Gmail account. I understand the Business side of emails on your phone, but beside that, how important are emails that it can’t wait till you get to your computer, or setting your computer emails to be forwarded to your standard Gmail account on the DROID, at least for viewing. I mean with texting and IM’s how important can your emails be that they need to be viewed with such urgency.

Why make your cell phone so integrated with your life, after 2 years you may change everything, your phone and maybe your carrier, and then all the torture of re-adjusting to changing and reinventing the new capabilities to your new cell phone begins. I know many things have change with my cell phones capabilities in just a few years between my Razr, DARE, and DROID. But other than loading contacts to my new phone it’s been painless. I use my Gmail account for cell phone related stuff (sending photos/videos) not for an exchange of information/text, my calls and text messages is my prime weapons of communication.

I can change my cell phone tomorrow and it would be painless and uneventful other than having a new toy to figure out. Separating your WANTS and NEEDS make sense, do you want it… do i really need it… do I want to put all my eggs in the cell phone I own for now, why, because I start eyeballing new phones within six months of my last purchase… lol.

The more intergraded my cell phone becomes in my life; the more dependable I’m going to become on the server. This would not be an issue if, in the future all cell phones become OPEN to all carriers. Right now we know cell phones and/or carriers don’t play nice with each other, I seen it with the release of the DROID, different cell phones within Verizon make it so they don’t adapt well to each other (Transferring Stuff).

I just receive my Google Voice Number, I chose TO HAVE a separate number, and NOT have my cell phone number intergraded to google voice, or vice-versa, but to have google voice have it’s own number. Do I need it, will I use it… probably not, but it may come in handy in the future, the set-up was painless and within my google home page on my Mac. Will I depend on it? NO… Google Voice does, and capable of doing a lot of cool things… do I need them… NO.

People tend to do things to their cell phone because it can be done, not because they really need it, their wants override their needs, and their cell phone stores a lot of useless Apps/files/programs which clog, slowdown, corrupt your phone, and then problem and headaches begin, don’t be a slave to your phone.

If you need your cell to do something … go for it, if not keep it simple.

Re: The Droid Review... IN REAL TIME

For those of you who are having trouble setting up Yahoo mail on your DROID, a friend of mind had his Yahoo mail FORWARD to his GMAIL account email address on the DROID.

I do not have a Yahoo account, so i have NOT use this forwarding set-up, but a friend of mine uses it and likes it.

Go to your Yahoo Mail account....

Go to options in the right hand corner of your screen. select... switch to Yahoo Mail Classic

On the top left hand corner where your name is... Highlight it and select "Account Info". enter your password in again.

Under Account Setting... click Set language, site, time-zone.

Select New Setting and change it to Yahoo! Asia... accept the new Terms of Agreement.

Now you should see a Yahoo! Asia logo on your home screen.

you should be able to enable POP access and Email Forwarding without the $20 fee members would pay.

Select options again on the top right hand corner, then choose Mail Options.

left of the screen select POP and Forwarding, then Set-up or edit Pop and Forwarding.

    A new Window/Tab will appear

Select the bubble next to forwarding, then enter in your new gmail account and select Save.

    The...Send Verification

Go in your gmail... grab the confirmation code... go back to the Yahoo... and enter your password again.

The set-up for Yahoo to forward incoming emails to your Gmail Account is completed.

This is just an alternative to read emails on the DROID without getting that involve or having problems incorporating a Yahoo account.

I just purchased the DROID holder for the car windshield that allows the DROID to go directly in the CAR MODE/HOME.

I like it... and it holds the DROID secure with good adjustment options. Taking the DROID in and out of the HOLDER is pretty easy.

The photo shows how the DROID sits in the holder/frame, pressing the release which is on the left side of the photo or the top side of the DROID. You can also pull off the frame while the DROID remains in the frame.

    Approx $29.00

Re: The Droid Review... IN REAL TIME

I just downloaded a App called EVERNOTE to my DROID and my Mac, there's a free version and paid/monthly premium version. Go to MARKET on your DROID and/or click on the link below to set up your EVERNOTE on your computer to upload notes and photos to your EVERNOTE account web page.

    ******************

Chances are, if you can see it or think of it, Evernote can help you remember it. Type a text note. Clip a web page. Snap a photo. Grab a screenshot. Evernote will keep it all safe.

Put your thoughts, ideas, inspiration, and things to remember all in one place. Use Evernote for work, for play, and for everything that’s noteworthy. Here are a few suggestions:

Remember the things you were supposed to remember. Create to-do lists, jot down random thoughts, leave a voice memo, and more.

Keep notes from your meetings all in one place. Take a picture of a whiteboard and you’ll be able to find it later.

Research web sites and clip pages directly from your browser.
    ****************
I LIKE THIS APP AND ITS CAPABILITIES

    Check out EVERNOTE@

Welcome to your notable world | Evernote Corporation

Re: The Droid Review... IN REAL TIME

Last night I had GHOST ARMOR applied to my DROID, it enhances the grip/feel of the phone and seems to make it less likely to fumble because of the edges.

I had it applied at a GHOST ARMOR kiosk stand at the mall, and i would suggest you do the same if possible, let the people who do it all day handle it with a guarantee to imperfections.
