OK...sorry if this has been asked before but I searched and didn't see this question. I have a LG4011 phone that I just managed to break. I originally got it about a year and a half ago when I signed up for the ATT Wireless Go Phone plan. Of course, now ATT Wireless is part of Cingular. I was able to keep the plan and everything but now I need to replace the phone. Customer service said I couldn't just buy a new Cingular GoPhone and put the old SIM card in it. They said my options were to buy an unlocked phone (expensive) or sign up for a new plan (not so bad if I'm buying the phone anyway) but I have a lot of phone numbers on my broken phone and it would be nice to have that info back as well as being able to keep the same number. Any chance the old ATT Wireless SIM card would work in one of the new Cingular GO Phones? I can't seem to find the manual for the phone but I am pretty sure it is GSM/GPRS.

an att sim will not work on a cingular phone unless the phone is unlocked. Also, there may be a chance that all your numbers are still on your att sim, so if you get an unlocked phone then just pop in your att sim and your good to go. If you end up switching to cingular (getting a cingular phone and sim) then they should be able to copy what contacts you have on your att sim onto your new cingular sim, good luck and let us know how it turns out!

Well...mostly good news. Decided to pick up a cheap Cingular GoPhone package (around $60) from Wal-Mart. Succeeded in unlocking it and slapped the old SIM chip in and it works just fine. The phone (Nokia 6010) works fine (actually much better reception than my old LG) and I'm getting pretty comfortable with the controls. Sadly, I had not saved any of my numbers to the SIM chip but have largely been able to reassemble my phone book with the aid of some friends. Anyway, thanks for the info.

yea no problem, and remember, with the nokia, you can copy contacts all at once, not like the lg where you cant (for most models i think), so if you dont have your contacts on your sim should you switch phones again, just remember the nokia will copy all of the phone memory into the sim memory all at once, peace!
