dropped my phone in the toilet and now its now working. took the battery and sim out and have been letting it dry in front of the a/c. ill try tomorow to turn it back on.

i feel like its not gonna work and the phone is shot so i should get a new one. it was powering on and off alot so it was time. i have insurance with cingular (samsung p207). i dont want to send my phone back to them if i tell them its water damaged b/c i have pics/emails and so on there that i dont want anyone to find if they try to refurb it or fix it. is it easier to just make a police report for lost/stolen property? this would be real easy b/c i am a cop and can make the report myself under another officers name and put it in the computer to get a case number for cingular.

question is, should i make the report for lost/stolen property? does it matter to cingular if it was LOST or STOLEN when i tell them on phone? will i get the same model phone or something of lesser value?

    thanks in advance

Oh wow! A 'cop' who is asking if he should commit a fraudulent act? Wow.

You should be honest. Your phone was insured. Does it cover water damage? That is the route you should take.

Not to condemn you, but if you hit a parked car, would you file a police report saying your car was hit while unattended? Scamming insurance companies hurts the rest of us.

    Please do the right thing.

As long as you are going to go that insurance fraud route.
You should just say your car was stolen, and your phone was in the glove box.
Might as well get a new car out of the deal too.

one of my old phones went for a swim at the beach while i was fishing on vacation. i had to catch the phone which had been completely immersed in the water, plus i was on vacation and didnt have much to dry it with. so i just dried it with paper towels and left it on the TV for the rest of the day. and the next day charged it up and it was turning on but kinda turning off again and again but after that it was working good enough and never called T-Mobile or anything. and it just had some episodes over the year where the screen would go blank and sometimes the charger wouldnt work but it was fine otherwise.

Similar incident happened to me. My phone was in my shirt pocket when I leaned over to fill the cat's water bowl.........splash! lol I quickly pulled the battery, completely disassembled the phone and let it all dry for a day. After it was put back together I had very few problems. The biggest being the 7 key was hit and miss, but since I had all of the numbers I called in the phone it wasnt a big issue except when I sent text messages.

Yeah Bentz, I trust the police a WHOLE LOT LESS after reading your post. I've been arrested before on false charges (the ONLY time I've ever been arrested) so I personally get sick to my stomach when I think about how you guys pull strings to take advantage of your position of power.

It's not just the issue with his cell phone. What kind of message does it send to people who read it and are currently in law enforcement (who try to do the right thing) or are considering to be future officers?

I'm no detective but I used to work collection for a rental company so forgive me if I see the ways of tracking down people here that most users don't. It would be pretty easy to log his I.P. send the stations in his area a copy of this post and his i.p. (as to track him down theirselves) and also send a copy to cing to keep an eye out for anyone with a similar claim from his area with that model cell phone, but like I said I'm not a detective.

As long as you have insurance, it doesn't matter what happens to your phone. They will replace it or fix it for you.

As for filing a false police report of a stolen phone, that's the most stupidest thing I ever heard.

If you worry that Cingular will not replace your phone for water damage, you can always say you lost the phone.

Why bother filing a false police report and take a risk of getting caught.

After reading your post, I really don't think you are a police officer.
