If you've been keeping up to date with the latest mobile news, then the unveiling of Google's Android 4.4 KitKat operating system is no mystery to you. What you're probably wondering now, is when your smartphone is going to benefit from this particular update. HTC has been brave enough to give us a time-frame for when its One line-up will make the jump to version 4.4, but other manufacturers are less eager to set anything in stone.

Fortunately for those of you who happen to own a Sony smartphone, the Japanese company has now announced its plans for updating its smartphone line-up to Android 4.3, and 4.4.

As such, the Xperia T, Xperia TX, V, Z, ZL, Xperia ZR, the Xperia Tablet Z, the SP, Xperia Z Ultra and the Xperia Z1 will all make the jump to Android 4.3 starting with December. Yep, all the aforementioned smartphones will receive Android 4.3 at first, but only a handful of them have been confirmed for an Android 4.4 release. More so, the Xperia T, TX and V will skip Android 4.2, and will jump straight from version 4.1 to 4.3.

While Sony hasn't revealed any timeframe in which we can expect Android 4.4 to hit the waves, the company did confirm that the Xperia Z, the ZL, the Xperia Tablet Z, Z Ultra and the Xperia Z1 will be the ones to receive the KitKat software version at first.

It's also interesting to note that, while Sony hasn't given any details regarding its plans on launching Android 4.4 on other devices aside from those mentioned above, the manufacturer has described these five smartphones as the "first raft" of updates. As such, we can speculate that more devices in the Sony Xperia line-up will eventually receive version 4.4 as well. It remains to be seen which smartphones will benefit from KitKat at a later date.

Do any of you own one or more of the gadgets listed above? Are you excited about this announcement?
