That will work great, if your phone company allows for having DSL without and active phone line. Most places you can't have DSL without an active working phone line. But that is and has been changing around the US. Sadly here in the Seattle area, at least with Verizon as my landline, I can't divorce the DSL from the phone at this time.

the same here... i need one phone line to support my DSL, which is a good thing i guess... because i like having a hard line in the house as a back-up.

Yup, Verizon is my DSL provider as well so the landline I have. Something else I forgot to mention is that I have satellite (Dishnet) tv and you can't get ppv without having a phoneline hooked up

Yeah, we use cell phones as our main phone. We used to have a landline for DSL, but we didn't even have a phone hooked up to the line. But now that we cable internet, its an extra $12 I can spend on booze instead of a phone line i don't use.

If you are worried about the whole 911 thing, then spring for the phone line and have the peace of mind. Odds are though, your neighbors probably have access to 911 so dont sweat it.

^^^ @ the booze reference. What happend if the neighbors are just as techy and clipped thier phone lines as well? Could you imagine the whole neighborhood without phonelines?

Well if you live in Silicon Valley then that could be a possibility Gadgetgirl. But in Everywhereelse, USA I don't think there will be much of a problem. Plus most of the cell towers have batterys incase the juice runs out. So, no worries

I dont recommend using a cell phone as a main phone unless your get at least 3 out of 5 bars in your house or 4 out of 7 whichever.

It is probably cheaper to use a cell over a landline phone.

Depends on usage and what kind of plan you have on the homeline.

Re: Anyone Use A Cell Phone As A Their Main Phone

For those of you that no longer use a land line service, do you get unsolicited calls on your cell phone from telemarketers etc? Often times when registering for online services etc, you are required to provide a phone number. Do you find that you get calls brought on by providing your number in those types of circumstances?

I have a land line but rarely use it. My cell phone is provided by my employer. I don't want to invite unwanted calls to the cell phone.

    Any feedback would be appreciated.

    Thanks!
