  3. Tap "Display" under "Device"

  5. Unmark the check box associated with "Automatic brightness"

  9. Under "Device", tap "Display"
  10. Tap "Sleep" and select a lower time-out setting (such as 15 seconds or 1 minute)

Disabling Bluetooth and GPS:

It's always a good idea to disable Bluetooth and GPS when not in use. These two features are quite demanding on your battery. To disable them:

  1. While on the home screen, pull the notification window down
  2. Tap the switches associated with "Bluetooth" and "GPS" to disable these features

Toggling from 3G to 2G Data Speeds:

Note: 2G usually requires less battery than 3G connectivity

  1. Tap the "All apps" icon located on the home screen
  2. Select "Settings"
  3. Tap "More…" under "Wireless & Networks"
  4. Tap "Mobile networks" > "Network mode"
  5. Select "WCDMA only" or "GSM only". (Both options are basically 2G)

Updating to the Latest Software Update:

Note: performing this step can only increase battery life if the manufacturer has launched a new software update that contains improvements in this area. Not every update increases battery life, and you'll need to check the changelog to see the changes. If no software update is available, then following these steps will have no effect.

  1. From the home screen, tap "All apps"
  2. Tap "Settings"
  3. Scroll down to "System" and tap "About phone"
  4. Tap "System Update" > "Check for software updates"
  5. If a new update is available, follow the on-screen prompts to download and apply it
