Turn On Battery Saving Mode:
- Tap Apps on the home screen
- Open Settings
- Scroll to Device and tap Battery
- Tap Menu and turn on Battery saver
Lower the Screen Brightness and Timeout Duration:
- On the home screen, swipe the Status bar down using two fingers
- Drag the Brightness slider towards the left edge of the screen to decrease luminosity
- Go to Settings and scroll to Device
- Tap Display
- Turn Automatic brightness ON or OFF
- For timeout settings, tap Sleep and select a lower timeout value such as 15 seconds
Disable Unused Connectivity Features:
NOTE: By turning off connectivity features such as Wi-Fi, Hotspot, GPS, and Bluetooth when unused, you can improve battery life in the long run.
- On the home screen, drag the Status bar down using two fingers
- Tap the Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and Location tiles to turn the features OFF
- Next open Settings
- Tap Location (GPS)
- Then tap Mode and select Battery saving for GPS
- To disable Hotspot, go back to Settings
- Then tap More under Wireless & Networks
- Tap Tethering & portable hotspot and set the switch OFF
Switch to 2G Networks Temporarily:
NOTE: If your device runs low on battery and you dont have quick access to a wall socket or battery bank, you can conserve battery life until the next recharge by limiting connectivity to 2G networks temporarily.
- Open Settings
- Under Wireless & networks, tap More
- Tap Mobile networks > Preferred network type
- Enable 2G
Change Sync Settings:
NOTE: By changing the sync settings of your apps / accounts to reduce sync, you can improve battery life in the long run.
- Go to Settings
- Scroll to Personal and tap Accounts
- Select an account
- Change the accounts sync settings to reduce sync
Minimize Third Party App Usage:
NOTE: Some third party apps perform regular background processes and they can potentially affect battery life even when not actively in use. By disabling or uninstalling unused third party apps, you can improve battery life in the long run.
- Open Settings
- Scroll to Device
- Tap Apps and make sure All Apps is selected in the drop-down menu at the top
- Select the desired app
- To turn the app off, tap Force stop
- To remove an app from the device, tap Uninstall
NOTE: Another way to remove an app is to open the apps drawer, and dragging > dropping the apps shortcut over the Uninstall section at the top.
Keep the OS Updated:
NOTE: Software updates can include battery life improvements, and thus its recommended to keep the OS up to date at all times. To check if new updates are available:
- Open Settings
- Scroll to and tap About phone
- Tap System updates and verify if a new update is available
- If applicable, follow the on-screen steps to download and apply updates. NOTE: The update process will require at least one reboot
