WARNING! When you factory reset your phone, all your personal data located on the device’s internal memory will be deleted, including media files, downloads, applications, contacts etc. Furthermore, all settings will be restored to factory values. However, data located on the SIM and SD cards will not be removed.

NOTE: Before you proceed with the factory reset, you can visit this thread for instructions on how to back up data on the LG G5, and this thread for a guide on how to restore data.

Factory Reset via Settings:

  1. On the home screen, swipe the “Notification” bar down
  2. Access “Settings”
  3. Tap “General” > “Backup & reset”
  4. Check or clear “Back up my data” and “Automatic restore”
  5. Tap “Backup account”. If necessary, follow the on-screen steps to sign in with, or create a Google backup account
  6. Tap “Factory data reset”
  7. Choose whether or not to “Erase SD card” too. WARNING! By enabling this option all data located on the SD card will be deleted during the factory reset process
  8. Tap “Reset phone” > “Next”
  9. Tap “Delete all” > “OK” to confirm

Factory Reset via Recovery (Hardware Buttons):

NOTE: If your phone crashes, freezes, or otherwise doesn’t allow you to perform a factory reset via Settings, you can try resetting the device from the Recovery menu, which can be accessed by performing a combination of hardware key presses.

  1. First, turn off your device
  2. Next, press and hold “Power” and “Volume down” simultaneously
  3. At the “LG” logo, quickly release and re-hold “Power”
  4. You should now gain access to the “Factory data reset” screen (release all buttons)
  5. Press “Volume down” to highlight “Yes”
  6. Press “Power” to confirm the highlighted option
  7. When prompted with “Erase all user data and restore default settings”, press “Volume down” to highlight “Yes”
  8. Press “Power” one last time to confirm the selection and reset your device

Check for Firmware Updates:

NOTE: After a fresh factory reset, it’s generally recommended to check if new software updates are available for download. To do this:

  1. Drag the “Notification” bar down on the home screen
  2. Tap “Settings” in the upper-right corner of the screen
  3. Tap “General” > “About phone”
  4. Tap “Software info”
  5. Verify if a new software update is available and, if necessary, follow the on-screen prompts to download and apply it on your phone
