WARNING! When factory resetting a device, all data stored on the device’s internal memory will be deleted, including media files, apps, ringtones, contacts, downloaded content etc. Furthermore, all settings will be restored to factory values.

NOTE: Data stored on the SD and SIM cards will not be affected. For instructions on how to back up data from the internal storage, visit this thread. For a guide on restoring data, visit this thread.

Factory Reset via Settings:

  1. On the home screen, swipe the “Notification” bar down
  2. Launch “Settings”
  3. If necessary, go to the “General” tab
  4. Tap “Backup & reset”
  5. Clear or tick the check boxes associated with “Back up my data” and “Automatic restore”
  6. Tap “Backup account”
  7. If necessary, follow the on-screen steps to sign in with or create a Google account
  8. Tap “Factory data reset”
  9. When prompted, select whether or not to “Erase SD card”. WARNING! By enabling this option, all data on the SD card will be deleted by the factory reset
  10. When ready, tap “Reset Phone” > “Next” > “Delete all”
  11. Tap “OK”

Factory Reset via Recovery:

NOTE: If your phone freezes, crashes, or doesn’t allow you to reset it via settings for whatever reasons, you might be able to reset the device from the Android System Recovery menu which can be accessed by performing a combination of key presses.

  1. First, ensure the phone is turned off
  2. Next, press and hold “Power” and “Volume down” at the same time
  3. When you see the “LG” logo on-screen, quickly release and re-hold “Power”
  4. At the “Factory data reset” screen, release all keys
  5. Press “Volume down” to highlight “Yes”
  6. Press “Power” to select the highlighted option
  7. When prompted to “Erase all user data and restore default settings”, use “Volume down” to highlight “Yes”
  8. Press “Power” and wait for the device to reset and reboot to complete the process

Check for Software Updates:

NOTE: After you have reset the phone, it’s recommended to check if new software updates are available. To do this:

  1. Swipe the “Status” bar down on the home screen
  2. Launch “Settings”
  3. Go to the “General” tab
  4. Scroll to and tap “About phone”
  5. Tap “Software info” and verify if new software updates are available for download
  6. If applicable, follow the on-screen prompts to download and apply the update(s). NOTE: This process will require you to reboot the phone
