Backing Up and Restoring Applications:
- While viewing the home screen, tap the "Apps" icon
- Tap "Settings"
- Under "Personal", tap "Backup & reset"
- Mark the "Back up my data" check box in order to back up account data, Wi-Fi passwords and various other settings on the Google servers
- Mark the "Automatic restore" check box to allow your smartphone to automatically restore settings and data when re-installing applications
NOTE: Apps will be automatically restored when signing in to the Google account containing the backup.
Backing Up and Restoring Contacts:
- Open the apps drawer
- Tap "Settings"
- Go to "Accounts"
- Select the account that you wish to use for syncing (backing up) your contacts
- Tap the "Menu" icon depicting three vertical dots
- Tap "Sync now"
NOTE: Contacts will be automatically restored once you sign in with the Google account containing them. You may have to sync the contacts again, if the process does not run automatically.
Backing UP Media Files & Pictures on a Computer:
- Establish a connection between the Moto E and computer via USB
- On the smartphone, tap "Media sync (MTP)"
- On the computer, navigate to the phone's storage
- Locate the files that you wish to back up, and copy them
- Paste the files on the desired backup location on your computer
- Once the transfer is complete, safely disconnect the Moto E from the computer
Restoring Media Files & Pictures from a Computer:
- Use the USB cable to connect the Moto E to your computer
- On the Motorola smartphone, tap "Media sync (MTP)"
- On the computer, locate the backed up files and folders
- Copy the desired items, and navigate to your phone's storage
- Paste the files in the desired location on your phone memory
- After the transfer is done, safely disconnect the Moto E from the PC

Here's a really easy video about how to back your photos on the phone itself
To restore just open the app after the reset and the photos will come back
