Turn On Battery Saving Mode:

  1. Open the “Apps” drawer
  2. Go to “Settings”
  3. Scroll to “Device” and tap “Battery”
  4. Tap “Menu”
  5. Enable “Battery saver”

Disable Unused Connectivity Features:

NOTE: By disabling Wi-Fi, Hotspot, GPS, and Bluetooth when these features are unused, you can improve battery life in the long run. To do this:

  1. On the home screen, swipe the “Status” bar down using two fingers
  2. Tap the “Wi-Fi”, “Bluetooth” and “Location” tiles to turn off these features
  3. For more GPS options, go to “Settings”
  4. Tap “Location” > “Mode” and select “Battery saving”
  5. To turn off Wi-Fi Hotspot, go to “Settings” and tap “More” under “Wireless & Networks”
  6. Next, tap “Tethering & portable hotspot” and set the switch to Off to disable the feature

Switch to 2G Connectivity:

NOTE: If your phone runs low on battery and you don’t have quick access to a battery bank or wall socket, you can conserve battery life until the next recharge by temporarily switching to 2G networks.

  1. Open “Settings”
  2. Under “Wireless & Networks”, tap “More”
  3. Tap “Mobile networks”
  4. Tap “Preferred network type”
  5. Select “2G”

Lower the Screen Brightness and Timeout Duration:

  1. Swipe the “Status” bar down on the home screen, using two fingers
  2. Drag the “brightness” slider towards the left side of the screen to decrease luminosity
  3. For additional options, go to “Settings”
  4. Tap “Display” under “Device”
  5. Optionally, turn “Adaptive brightness” On or Off
  6. Tap “Sleep”
  7. Select a lower timeout value such as “30 seconds”

Change Sync Settings:

NOTE: By changing the sync settings of your apps / accounts to minimize sync, you might improve battery life in the long run.

  1. Open the apps drawer
  2. Launch “Settings”
  3. Under “Personal”, tap “Accounts”
  4. Select an account
  5. Disable the available / desired sync options

Keep the OS Up to Date:

NOTE: Software updates can include battery life improvements, and thus it’s recommended to keep the OS up to date at all times. To check for OS updates:

  1. Open “Settings”
  2. Scroll to and tap “About phone”
  3. Tap “System updates”
  4. Verify if a new update is available, and if applicable, follow the on-screen prompts to download and apply it. NOTE: This process will require you to reboot the phone

Minimize Third Party App Usage:

NOTE: Some third party apps can perform regular background processes, and thus they can technically affect battery life even when they are not actively in use. As such, by disabling or removing unused third party apps from your phone, you might improve battery life in the long run.

  1. Go to “Settings”
  2. Scroll to “Device” and tap “Apps”
  3. Make sure “All Apps” is selected in the drop-down menu above
  4. Select the desired app
  5. Tap “Force stop” to disable the app
  6. To remove the app, tap “Uninstall”

NOTE: Alternatively you can uninstall apps from your phone by opening the apps drawer, and dragging > dropping the app’s shortcut over the “Uninstall” section at the top of the screen.
