Clear App Cache / Data:

NOTE: If one of your apps crashes, freezes, takes up too much storage inexplicably or doesn’t work as intended, you can try fixing these issues by clearing the application’s cache and / or data.

WARNING! When you clear an application’s data, all your personal information stored within the app will be deleted. This includes save games, profiles, settings, login and credit card information etc. To avoid losing this data, clear only the app’s cache.

  1. Open the apps drawer
  2. Go to “Settings”
  3. Tap “Apps” and make sure “All Apps” is selected in the drop-down menu at the top
  4. Tap the desired application
  5. Go to “Storage” and tap “Clear cache”
  6. If clearing the cache didn’t help, tap “Clear data” > “OK” to confirm. (NOTE: read WARNING above)

Clear the Phone’s Cache Partition:

NOTE: If your phone doesn’t work as intended and you are considering resetting it, you can first try clearing the device’s cache partition. This can have similar results to a factory reset, without losing any personal data stored on the phone’s internal memory.

  1. Make sure the phone is turned off
  2. Next, press and hold “Power” and “Volume Down” for at least 5 seconds
  3. Once you release the buttons you should immediately have access to the “Boot Mode Selection Menu”
  4. In this menu, press “Volume down” repeatedly to highlight “Recovery”
  5. Press “Volume Up” to select the highlighted option
  6. At the “No Command” screen, press and release “Power” and “Volume Up” repeatedly until you gain access to “Android Recovery”
  7. Navigate the Recovery menu using the volume keys. Highlight “Wipe cache partition” and press “Power”
  8. Press “Volume down” to highlight “Yes”
  9. Press “Power” to select the option
  10. After the cache partition is cleared, “Reboot system now” will be highlighted
  11. Press “Power” to confirm and reboot your device

NOTE: if clearing the cache partition didn’t help, you can visit this thread for instructions on how to factory reset the phone.

Reboot in Safe Mode and Remove an Application:

NOTE: If you have installed a third party app that causes problems and prevents you from removing it, you should be able to easily uninstall the app from within Safe Mode. In this mode all third party apps are disabled.

  1. Wake the screen if necessary
  2. Press and hold “Power” while on the home screen
  3. Tap and hold “Power off” in the pop-up window
  4. When prompted to reboot to Safe Mode, tap “OK” to confirm
  5. Wait for your device to reboot. Once done, you should see a “Safe Mode” watermark in the lower-left corner of the screen
  6. To remove an app, first open “Settings” and go to “Apps”
  7. Make sure you view “All apps”
  8. Tap the desired app and tap “Uninstall” > “OK”
  9. To exit Safe Mode, simply press and hold “Power” and tap “Power off” to restart your device as you normally would
