Backing Up Applications:

  1. While on a home screen, press the "Menu" button
  2. Tap "Settings" and access the "Accounts" tab
  3. Tap "Backup and reset". NOTE: in order to back up your apps, you need to be logged in to a Google account. If you need to add an account, tap "Backup account" > "Add account" and follow the on-screen steps
  4. If necessary, mark the check boxes associated with "Backup my data" and "Backup account"

Contact Backup

Backing Up Contacts to a Google or Samsung Account:

  1. From the home screen, tap the "Contacts" icon
  2. Press the "Menu" button and tap "Merge accounts"
  3. Select either "Merge with Google" or "Merge with Samsung"
  4. If required, log in with your Samsung or Google account

Backing Up Contacts on the SD Card:

  1. From the home screen, tap the "Contacts" icon
  2. Press the "Menu" button, and tap "Contacts to display" > "All contacts"
  3. Press "Menu" and tap "Import / Export"
  4. Select "Export to SD card"
  5. The back up file will have a unique name. Make sure you remember it (write it down) for when you will try to restore your contacts
  6. Tap "OK"

Media File Back Up

Backing Up Media Files on the SD Card:

  1. Tap the "Apps" icon while viewing a home screen
  2. Tap "My Files" > "All files"
  3. Tap "Device storage". NOTE: if you wish to back up all the files, press the "Menu" button, tap "Select all" and skip to step 6
  4. Navigate to where the desired files are located. Usually, pictures taken with the camera are located in the "DCIM" folder, downloaded files are in the "Downloads" folders etc.
  5. Mark the check box next to the desired file or folder
  6. When ready, tap the "Menu" icon located at the top-right area of the screen
  7. Select "Copy". Alternatively, tap "Move" instead if you wish to avoid creating duplicate files
  8. Select "SD memory card"
  9. Navigate to the desired backup folder and tap "Paste here" (or "Move here")

Backing Up Media Files Using a Windows Computer:

  1. Use the USB cable to connect your smartphone to your computer
  2. On the SGSIII Neo, swipe the "Status" bar down and tap "Connected as a media device"
  3. Mark the "Media device (MTP)" check box
  4. On the computer, click "Open device to view files using Windows Explorer" in the AutoPlay window
  5. Navigate to where the desired files are located. NOTE: the "Card" icon represents the external memory, whereas the "Phone" icon represents the phone's internal storage
  6. Copy the desired files
  7. Navigate to where you wish to back up the files on your computer's hard drive
  8. Once the transfer is complete, safely disconnect your smartphone

Backing Up Media Files Using a Mac Computer:

NOTE: you can skip the first two steps if you already have Kies installed on your computer

  1. Open the Internet browser on your Mac and visit SAMSUNG KIES
  2. Click "Download for Mac OS" and follow the on-screen prompts in order to install Kies on your computer
  3. Connect your smartphone to the Mac via USB
  4. On the Neo, swipe the "Status" bar down and tap "Connected as a media device" > "Media device (MTP)"
  5. On the Mac, launch Kies
  6. In Kies, click the "Back up / restore" tab, and go to the "Backup" tab
  7. Mark the check boxes next to "Music", "Photo" and any other types of files that you wish to back up. Optionally, mark the "Select all items" check box
  8. Click "Backup"
  9. Once the process is complete, safely disconnect your smartphone
