Back Up Applications:
- Tap Apps on the home screen
- Go to Settings
- Swipe to Personal and tap Backup & reset
- Enable Back up my data. This will back up your account data, settings, and Wi-Fi passwords
- Enable Automatic restore if you want backed up settings and data to be restored the next time you re-install backed up apps
NOTE: App data will be automatically restored when you sign in with your Google account on the phone
Back Up Contacts:
- Open the apps drawer
- Go to Settings
- Tap Accounts
- Tap the account you want to sync
- Tap More > Sync now
NOTE: Contacts will be automatically restored the next time you sign into the Google account used for the initial backup.
Back Up Media Files on a Windows PC:
- Connect the Samsung Galaxy A8 to your computer via USB
- Swipe the Status bar down and tap Connected as a media device > enable Media device (MTP)
- On the computer, double-click Open device to view files from the AutoPlay window
- Navigate to the media files on your phone
- Copy the files and transfer them in the desired backup location on your computers HDD
Back Up Media Files on a Mac Computer:
NOTE: Skip the first 4 steps if Samsung Kies is already installed on your Mac
- Open the Internet browser on the Mac
- Visit Kies
- Click Download for Mac OS
- Follow the on-screen prompts to install Kies on the Mac
- Connect the Galaxy A8 to the Mac via USB (if necessary enable Media deice (MTP) from the notification area)
- Open Kies on the Mac
- Inside Kies, click the Back up / restore tab
- Click the Backup tab
- Select the check boxes associated with Music, Photo and other types of media files
- Click Backup
- Once the process is done, eject the phones storage and safely disconnect it from the computer
Restore Media Files from a Windows Computer:
- Connect the Galaxy A8 to your PC via USB
- Enable Media device (MTP) if necessary
- In the AutoPlay window click to Open device to view files
- Navigate to the phones storage
- Open a second Windows Explorer window and locate the files backed up on your computer
- Drag the files onto your phones storage
- After the transfer, safely disconnect the phone
Restore Media Files from a Mac Computer:
- Establish a USB connection between the Galaxy A8 and Mac
- If necessary, swipe the Status bar down and enable Media device (MTP)
- Open Kies on the Mac
- Inside Kies, click the Back up / restore tab
- Click the Restore tab
- Mark the check boxes associated with Music, Photos, and other types of media files you want to restore
- To restore all of your files, check Select all items
- Click Restore and if necessary follow any additional steps that may follow on-screen
- When done, eject the phone storage and safely disconnect the device from the Mac
