WARNING! When you factory reset your phone, all personal data located on the phone’s internal memory will be deleted. This includes apps, ringtones, contacts, media files, downloaded content etc. Furthermore, all settings will be restored to factory values, however data stored on the SD and SIM cards will not be affected.

NOTE: Before resetting the phone, you can head down to this thread for instructions on how to back up and restore personal data on the Samsung Galaxy Express 3.

Factory Reset via Settings:

  1. Tap “Apps” on the home screen
  2. Open “Settings” and scroll to “Personal”
  3. Tap “Backup and reset”
  4. Optionally, enable or disable “Back up my data” and “restore”
  5. Tap “Factory data reset” > “Reset device”
  6. In case your phone is protected by a lock screen, enter your PIN / password to proceed
  7. Tap “Continue” > “Delete all”

Factory Reset via Recovery:

NOTE: In case your phone freezes, crashes, or otherwise doesn’t allow you to reset it via Settings as described above, alternatively you can try resetting the phone from the Android System Recovery menu, which can be accessed by performing a combination of hardware button presses.

  1. First make sure your phone is turned off
  2. Next, press and hold “Power”, “Home”, and “Volume Up” simultaneously
  3. When the “Samsung” logo appears, release “Power”
  4. At the “Android” logo, release “Volume Up” and “Home” too
  5. Wait for the phone to boot into the Recovery menu (this can take up to 1 minute)
  6. In the Recovery menu, press “Volume down” repeatedly to navigate to and highlight “Wipe data / factory reset”
  7. Press “Power” to select the highlighted option
  8. Press “Volume down” to highlight “Yes – delete all user data”
  9. Press “Power” again to confirm
  10. Once the reset is complete, “Reboot system now” will be highlighted
  11. Press “Power” one more time to confirm and reboot your phone

Check for Software Updates:

NOTE: After you factory reset your phone, it’s recommended to check if new software updates are available for download. To do this:

  1. Open the apps drawer
  2. Launch “Settings”
  3. Tap “About device”
  4. Verify if a new software update is available, and if necessary, follow the on-screen prompts to download and install it
