Clear App Data / Cache:
NOTE: If one of your applications doesnt work as intended, it freezes, crashes, or takes up too much storage inexplicably, you can try fixing these issues by clearing the apps cache / data.
WARNING! Clearing an applications data will result in the deletion of all personal data stored within the app. This includes profiles, credit card and login information, high scores, save files, settings etc. To avoid losing personal data, clear only the applications cache.
- Tap Apps on the home screen
- Open Settings and scroll to Device
- Tap Applications > Application manager
- Swipe to All or Downloaded and select the desired app
- Tap Clear cache
- If necessary, tap Clear data > OK (read WARNING above)
Clear the Phones Cache Partition:
NOTE: If your phone freezes, crashes, or runs out of storage inexplicably and youre considering master resetting the device to fix these issues, you can try solving the problems by wiping the phones cache partition. This can lead to similar results as a factory reset, without losing any of the personal data stored on the phones internal storage.
- Turn off the device
- Press and hold Power, Home and Volume Up at the same time
- When the Samsung logo appears, release Power
- At the Android logo, release the other buttons too
- From the Recovery menu, press Volume down repeatedly to highlight wipe cache partition
- Press Power to confirm the selection
- Once the cache is cleared, Reboot system now should be highlighted
- Press Power to confirm and restart the device
NOTE: If clearing the cache partition didnt solve the problems, you can visit this thread for instructions on how you can factory reset the device instead.
Reboot to Safe Mode and Remove an App:
NOTE: In case you have installed a third party application that causes problems and prevents you from removing it, you can uninstall the app from within Safe Mode. In this mode, all third party apps are disabled by default.
- Turn off the phone
- Press and hold Power
- Once the Samsung logo appears, release Power and immediately press and hold Volume down instead
- Once the phone finishes rebooting, release Volume down too. (NOTE: a Safe Mode label should be shown in the lower-left area of the home screen)
- Open the Settings menu
- Scroll to Device
- Tap Applications > Application manager
- Access Downloaded and select the desired app
- Tap Uninstall two times to confirm
- Once the app has been removed, press and hold Power, then tap Restart to reboot your phone as you normally would and exit Safe Mode
