WARNING! When you master reset your device, all personal data stored on the phones internal memory will be deleted. This includes media files, ringtones, downloaded content, contacts, applications etc. Furthermore, all settings will be restored to factory values.
NOTE: Data stored on the SD and SIM cards will not be affected. However, you can visit this thread for instructions on how to back up and restore data on the phones internal memory.
Master Reset via Settings:
- Tap Apps on the home screen
- Access Settings
- Scroll to Personal and tap Backup and reset
- Enable or disable Back up my data and Automatic Restore
- Tap Factory data reset > Reset device
- In case your device is protected by a lock screen, enter your PIN / password to proceed
- Tap Continue > Delete all
Master Reset via Recovery:
NOTE: In case your phone crashes, freezes, or otherwise prevents you from resetting it via Settings, alternatively you can try resetting the device from the Android Recovery menu. To access Recvovery:
- First make sure the phone is powered Off
- Then press and hold Power, Home and Volume Up at the same time
- At the Samsung logo, release Power
- When the Android screen appears, release Volume Up and Home too
- After up to 2 minutes you should have access to the Android Recovery meu
- In Recovery, press Volume down to navigate the menu and highlight Wipe data / factory reset
- Press Power to select the highlighted option
- After the reset is complete, highlight Reboot system now
- Press Power to confirm
Check for Software Updates:
NOTE: After you factory reset your phone, its recommended to check if new OS updates are available for download. To check if new updates are available:
- Launch Settings
- Scroll to and tap About device
- Verify if a new update is available. If applicable, follow the on-screen prompts to apply any available updates. NOTE: The update process will require at least one reboot, make sure you save any unsaved data before proceeding
