Conserving battery life on a smartphone is very important, especially if you're on the go and you don't have access to a wall socket or an external battery / charger. There are plenty of factors that could affect your smartphone's battery life, and below you will find a list of tips & tricks that can help you tremendously increase the battery performance of the Sony Xperia Z1s.

Enabling Battery Saving Mode:

  1. While viewing the home screen, tap the "All Apps" icon
  2. Tap "Settings"
  3. Select "Power management" under "Device"
  4. Tap the switch associated with "STAMINA mode" to enable the feature
  5. Switch "Low battery mode" to "ON", and do the same with "Location-based Wi-Fi"

Changing the Way Battery Saving Mode Works:

While battery saving mode comes with default settings, you can adjust them manually, based on your needs.

  1. Go to "Settings" and tap "Power management" under "Device"
  2. Perform one or more of the following sets of steps:
    • To edit "STAMINA mode":
      1. Tap "STAMINA mode"
      2. Enable the feature by setting the switch in the "ON" position
      3. Tap "Activation"
      4. Grab the slider associated with "Battery level", and adjust it to the desired level where STAMINA mode will activate itself
      5. Tap "OK"
      6. Additionally, you can add or remove applications from the list, under "Apps Active in Standby"
    • Editing Low Battery Mode:
      1. Tap "Low battery mode" and enable the feature
      2. You can tap "Screen brightness" or "Screen timeout" to edit these settings
      3. Furthermore, you clear any additional options, such as "Auto-sync" or "Mobile data"

Lowering the Screen Brightness and Timeout Delay:

  1. While on the home screen, tap "Applications"
  2. Tap "Settings" and then tap "Display" under "Device"
  3. Select "Brightness"
  4. Unmark the check box associated with "Adapt to lighting conditions". This will give you access to the brightness slider
  5. Drag the brightness slider to a lower, but still comfortable level and press "OK"
  6. Tap "Sleep" and then select a lower timeout value, such as "15 seconds"

Disabling Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Portable Wi-Fi Hotspot and GPS:

Connectivity is one of the main factors of battery draining, and when not in use, you should disable any connectivity features in order to conserve energy.

  1. From the home screen, drag the "Notification bar" down
  2. Tap the switch associated with "Wi-Fi", "Bluetooth" and "Location" to disable Wi-Fi, BT and GPS
  3. Now, tap the "Settings" icon located in the top-right corner
  4. Scroll down to "Wireless & Networks" and tap "More"
  5. Select "Tethering and Mobile HotSpot", and clear the "Mobile HotSpot" check box

Reducing App Auto-Sync Settings:

  1. While on the home screen, tap "All Apps" and go to "Settings"
  2. Under "Accounts", select the account that you want to edit
  3. Select an account name, if necessary
  4. Look through the list and clear as many check boxes as possible, in order to reduce auto-sync

Disabling Background Data:

  1. Go to your app drawer and open "Settings"
  2. Scroll down to "Wireless & Networks" and tap "Data usage"
  3. Press the "Menu" icon located in the upper-right side of the screen (depicting three dots)
  4. Mark the "Restrict background data" check box

Minimizing the Use of 3rd Party Applications:

  1. Access the "Settings" menu as you have before
  2. Tap "Apps" under "Device"
  3. Swipe the screen to access the "Downloaded" tab
  4. Tap an application and then select "Disable" or "Uninstall"
  5. Tap "OK" to confirm

Switching from 4G to WCDMA Connectivity:

  1. While viewing the home screen, tap "All aps"
  2. Go to "Settings" and tap "More" under "Wireless & Networks"
  3. Tap "Mobile networks" > "Network Mode"
  4. Tap "WCDMA" to switch from 4G connectivity

Applying to the Latest Available Software Version:

NOTE: this tip works only if a new software update that fixes potential battery issues is available for download. Otherwise, following these steps will have no effect.

  1. From any of the home screens, tap "Applications"
  2. Tap "Settings" and select "About phone" under "System"
  3. Tap "Software update" and wait for your device to search if there's a new firmware available
  4. If there is, follow any additional on-screen prompts to apply the update
