Turn On Battery Saving Mode:

  1. Open the “Apps” drawer while viewing the home screen
  2. Launch “Settings”
  3. Scroll to “Device” and tap “Battery”
  4. Tap “Menu” and enable “Battery saver”

Lower the Screen Brightness and Timeout Duration:

  1. Swipe the “Status” bar down on the home screen
  2. Drag the “Brightness” slider to the left to decrease luminosity
  3. Access “Settings” for additional options
  4. Scroll to “Device” and tap “Display”
  5. Optionally, turn “Adaptive brightness” On or Off
  6. Tap “Sleep” and select a lower screen timeout duration like “30 seconds”

Disable Unused Connectivity Options:

NOTE: By turning off Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Hotspot, and GPS while these features are unused, you can improve battery life in the long run. To do this:

  1. Swipe the “Status” bar down using two fingers
  2. Tap the “Wi-Fi”, “Bluetooth” and “Location” (GPS) tiles to disable these features
  3. For additional GPS options, go to “Settings”
  4. Tap “Location” > “Mode” and select “Battery saving”
  5. To turn off Hotspot, go to “Settings” and tap “more” under “Wireless & Networks”
  6. Then, tap “Tethering & portable hotspot” and set the switch button to OFF

Switch to 2G Networks:

NOTE: If your phone runs low on battery and you don’t have quick access to a battery bank or wall socket, you can improve battery life until the next recharge by temporarily switching to 2G networks.

  1. Launch “Settings”
  2. Under “Wireless & Networks”, tap “More”
  3. Tap “Mobile networks” > “Preferred network type”
  4. Choose “2G”

Minimize Third Party App Usage:

NOTE: Some third party apps can perform regular background processes even when they are not actively in use, and thus they can affect battery performance even when they are not in use. By disabling or removing unused third party apps, you can improve battery life in the long run.

  1. Launch “Settings”
  2. Scroll to “Device” and tap “Apps”
  3. Tap the drop-down menu and make sure “All apps” is selected
  4. Tap the desired application
  5. Tap “Force stop” to disable the application, or alternatively tap “Uninstall” to remove the app from the phone

NOTE: You can also uninstall applications from your phone by opening the apps drawer, and dragging & dropping the app’s shortcuts in the “Uninstall” area at the top of the screen

Change Sync Settings:

NOTE: By changing the sync settings of your accounts / apps to reduce sync, you might improve battery life in the long run.

  1. Tap “Apps” on the home screen
  2. Open “Settings”
  3. Under “Personal”, tap “Accounts”
  4. Select an account and disable or modify the desired sync options to reduce sync

Keep the OS Updated:

NOTE: Software updates can include battery life improvements, and as such it’s recommended to keep the OS up to date at all times. To check if new updates are available:

  1. Open “Settings”
  2. Scroll to and tap “About phone”
  3. Tap “System updates”
  4. Verify if a new update is available, and if applicable, follow the on-screen instructions to download and apply the update(s). NOTE: This process will require at least one reboot
