Enable Battery Saving Mode:

  1. Launch the apps drawer and go to “Settings”
  2. Scroll to “Device”
  3. Tap “Battery” > “menu”
  4. Enable “Battery saver”

Lower the Screen Brightness and Timeout Duration:

  1. Swipe the “Status” bar down on the home screen using two fingers
  2. Drag the “Brightness” slider towards the left side of the screen to decrease luminosity
  3. Go to “Settings” and scroll to “Device”
  4. Tap “Display” and, optionally, enable or disable “Adaptive brightness”
  5. Tap “Sleep” for timeout options and select a lower value

Change Sync Settings:

NOTE: By changing the sync settings of your accounts / apps to reduce sync, you might improve battery life in the long run (depending on how many third party apps sync data on your phone)

  1. Open the apps drawer
  2. Launch “Settings”
  3. Scroll to “Personal” and tap “Accounts”
  4. Select an account and turn off the desired (available) sync options

Minimize Third Party App Usage:

NOTE: Certain third party apps can perform regular background processes, and as such they can potentially affect battery life even when not actively used. Thus, by disabling or removing unused third party apps from the phone, you could improve battery life in the long run.

  1. Launch “Settings”
  2. Scroll to “Device”
  3. Make sure “All Apps” is selected from the drop-down menu at the top
  4. Tap the desired app and tap “Force Stop” to turn off the app
  5. To remove the app from the phone, tap “Uninstall”

NOTE: To quickly uninstall an app, alternatively you can open the apps drawer and then drag and drop the app shortcut on top of the “Uninstall” area.

Disable Unused Connectivity Features:

NOTE: By disabling the phone’s connectivity features when unused – such as Wi-Fi, Hotspot, GPS, and Bluetooth – you might improve battery life in the long run. To do this:

  1. Swipe the “Status” bar down using two fingers
  2. Tap the “Wi-Fi”, “Bluetooth” and “location” tiles to disable these features
  3. For more GPS options, access “Settings”
  4. Tap “Location” > “Mode” and enable “Battery saving”
  5. To disable Hotspot, return to “Settings”
  6. Then, tap “More” under “Wireless & Networks”
  7. Tap “Tethering & portable hotspot”
  8. Tap the switch to disable this feature

Temporarily Switch to 2G Networks:

NOTE: In case your phone runs low on battery life and you don’t have quick access to a wall socket or battery bank, you can conserve battery life until the next recharge by temporarily switching to 2G networks.

  1. Open “Settings”
  2. Under “Wireless & Networks”, tap “More”
  3. Tap “Mobile Networks” > “Preferred network type”
  4. Select “2G”

Keep the OS Updated:

NOTE: Software updates can include battery life improvements, and as such it’s recommended to keep the OS up to date at all times. To check for updates:

  1. Launch “Settings”
  2. Scroll to and tap “About phone”
  3. Tap “System updates” and check if a new update is available for download
  4. If applicable, follow the on-screen prompts to download and apply it. NOTE: this will require at least one reboot
