    Okay, I have been with Sprint for years and am coming to the end of our contract. I am fed up with the dropped calls, and poor service and am going to switch. However, we added my son to our family plan last year. While our contract is up this month, his phone contract will not be up until next August. I do not want to have 2 plans, and would prefer to avoid the $150 fee to break his contract. My thoughts are that we added him to an existing contract, but I am sure the soulless demons at Sprint see it as another way to squeeze every possible dime from me. I have heard of the tactic of telling them we are moving to some area they don't service (some missile testing range in White Sands I suppose), but am not sure it works, or if I want to go through all the subterfuge. The morality of it does not bother me a bit, as I have come to think of Sprint in terms normally reserved for pedophiles and mass murderers. But, perhaps I go too far...
    Any advice would be welcome.

    There's not much you can do. You signed a contract. Did you read it? It said that you agree to stay with them for two years, unless you pay them $150 (now they've raised it to $200).
    Lie, cheat, scheme your way out of it.... if you can.
    Karma's a *****.

    Sounds like you need to go to a sprint store and upgrade the firmware on your phone.
    Dropped calls is usually a symptom of that.

    They have so many plans out there now you cant loose,
    tell them you'll go to another provider unless they give you new phones free and free shipping and free stuff. (research the other provider)
    if they say no, tell em you'll think on it. after about three or four calls they will give in.
    keep in mind any changes you make to your plan will resart the 2 year clock.

    Thats dumb. You can't trick them into giving you a new phone, they're under contract, if you do go to another carrier Sprint will charge you an ETF, they get their money either way. They aren't losing, and they wouldn't want to keep a customer like that on. What we call a toxic customer.

    I have gone the update route, and this is an issue I have had with them with many phones over many years. Bottom line, I think Sprint is good for people who travel around the country, but not so good around town (at least around here). The in-store experience is appalling, there never seems to be a willingness to work with you at all. I am switching from them no matter what at the end of the week. If I have to pay the contract fee, so be it - I was just hoping for an opportunity to turn on them for a change, after being jammed by them so often over the past 6 years.

    Thanks for the thoughts though.

    Re: Breaking a Sprint Contract

    I don't like to plug companies I have no personal dealings with, but I've heard of a couple sites that offer a way to get out of your contract by "trading" with someone who's also unhappy with their service. Transferring the contractual obligation to another party does not renew the contract, so there might be someone out there willing to take your contract for the remainder of its time. Instead of giving you a direct link, I googled it and the top result was a consumer affairs report, the second link is the site I'm talking about, so here is the google link and you can take the consumer affairs report with a grain of salt (it comes with a warning). cellular contract trade - Google Search

    This is not dumb.

    First of all, I bought this info off ebay;
    Second, I got my new phone that way;
    Third, my friend got two new free phones+++ using this method.
    Their job is to keep customers.

    Anyway the trade deal sounds ok.

    Re: Breaking a Sprint Contract

    Are you not trying to break ties with them? You're trying to find a way you can cheat your way out of the term. fee (transfer of liability wouldn't be bad). Would you stay with them if they offered you a good deal? If so then go for it, if not then pay your stupid fee and get it over with (you'd save more if you pay it than if you just keep the contract...).
