So I look online at my account to find out my 3rd line's 'end of contract' exact day. I knew it was August of this year- so how shocked wasI to see Feb 2009!
-This was an 'add on' line I got for my son, there were no changes, no adjustments, no reason for any extensions onthe 2 year agreement.
So I clicked the little 'chat' button, got a rep in a few minutes, and she confirmed my start date August 7, 2006. Then I tell her my account shows 6 months after...she said she would fix it and change it back to August 08.
???? Do they just arbitrarily add onto your contracts now?
Hmmm... maybe I better look at my other 2 lines, and yep- my wife'shas mysteriously been extended months!!!!

Re: ooooh...Sprint is sneaky!!
Sometimes automated systems screw up, or if a rep accidentally check marked the option to extend the contract after a feature was added (such as texting) 6 months after...

Re: ooooh...Sprint is sneaky!!
I did absolutely nothing to alter my contract and my contract was extended to 2009 also. Yes Sprint is sneaky. This one point may lead me to go over to the Dark Side; AT&T for the new iPhone 3G.

Re: ooooh...Sprint is sneaky!!
I was totally honest in my post. Sprint extended my warranty without my permission.
What you should be asking is should you be checking your contract.
Here is end of chat session. I can supply full transcript if you want.
12:32:49 PM BUDDY1065 To my knowledge I never authorized a contract renewal. Was this done over the phone or by internet?
12:33:10 PM Whitney H Did you request this line to be cancelled ever?
12:33:20 PM Whitney H Before?
12:33:50 PM BUDDY1065 No, not the expresscard, never. Was I charged a cancellation fee?
12:36:20 PM Whitney H I see that you were having service issues and you spoke to someone in Technical Support is that correct.
12:38:27 PM BUDDY1065 I dont recall speaking with anyone or having a problem; can you supply a date? Also again, was I charged a cancellation fee?
12:38:55 PM Whitney H There was no cancellation fee applied this was on 3/4/2008.
12:40:42 PM BUDDY1065 Why would they remedy the problem with a new contract if I had a problem? I don't understand why I would possibly renew a contract when the other one was in effect until 2/2009.
12:41:15 PM Whitney H I did go ahead and remove the extension but I was just explaining why it was there.
12:42:15 PM Whitney H Your agreement now ends 2/2009 again.
12:42:20 PM Whitney H Do you have any further questions?
12:43:51 PM BUDDY1065 If I were to discontinue this contract July 17th what would the penalty fee be?
12:44:10 PM Whitney H It would be 150.00.
12:44:47 PM BUDDY1065 Thanks much for the info. 'bye.
12:44:55 PM Whitney H Thank you again for contacting Sprint. We appreciate your business.
12:45:10 PM System Whitney H has left this session!
12:45:10 PM System The session has ended!
Names have been changed.

Re: ooooh...Sprint is sneaky!!
Yes they are sneaky. I had 2 lines one for me and my wife. I recently went to terminate my contract with them. When I got the phones they said I could terminate the service at anytime for 250.00. Well when I went to do it I had to pay 500.00 cause its 250.00 a line. Sneaky sneaky.

Re: ooooh...Sprint is sneaky!!
that happens anytime you make any modifications to your plan at all...add a line, change a service. They always re-up your contract.

Re: ooooh...Sprint is sneaky!!
UPDATE:
So, I go to cancel my 3rd line, as the contract is expiring...and guess what? You got it! Sprint 'mysteriously' has me down for another 6 months. Here I go again. So I get ahold of a rep, give her the chat log, PROVING that I was right about my August date and that is was fixed...and the rep says that she doesn't know what was going on, that Sprint somehow, someway unknown to them, adds 6 months onto a contract. Then she tells me that NO ONE has the power to alter the end date! After talking to 2-3 more reps in different departments (and different countries!) I get them to agree to turn off the phone, cancel the account w/o a fee. -And they acted like they were doing me some huge favor! Gee, thanks! None of the reps could ever answer WHY 6 months kept adding itself onto the account -since there were NO changes, additions, modifications, alterations, NOTHING done to this account in the 2 years of it's existance!
Man I cannot wait until MAY!

Re: ooooh...Sprint is sneaky!!
Sprint pulled something similar to my. I signed up for a contract, then about 6 months later on i decided to add on unlimited txt messages, and just doing that extended my contract by 6 months. I was pissed, why in the world would they extend my contract if I decided to put an add on and give them more money monthly? Now I do not add anything on after I have already signed the contract.
