I had a series of very disturbing phone calls from a Private number a couple of days ago, and I'm trying to figure out if there's anyway to find out the number that called. I contacted Sprint and they said there was nothing they could do. I highly doubt this....

Re: How To Trace A Private Call?
Sprint is useless with that. You would have to file a police report, then the police would force Sprint to turn over the persons contact info. I was getting calls from some stupid magazine company, and they wouldn't leave me alone. But after Sprint made ZERO effort in helping me, I had to take care of it on my own. Which meant filing charges with the FCC, and creating complaints online.

I was afraid of that. Sprint is useless with an array of issues, this one is just adding to the list...

Re: How To Trace A Private Call?
Yeah, I know how you feel. I just don't understand it though. When I received some harassing phone calls back in Florida, Bell South was able to give me the info. But Sprint seems completely incapable of protecting their users on their very own network. It's like the Wild West. Sprint won't even block the number if you have it. They also will not press charges on the harasser.
I wish I could provide you with more help. Maybe the FCC might have some helpful into. Check out their web site for their phone number and/or email address.
Here are some links that might help:
Cell Phone Harassment
FCC Policy Statement on the Prevention and Elimination of Harassment in the Workplace
FCC Consumer Complaints

If you can get the number, you can get every bit of their info and notify the police.

Yeah, I remember back when I had Cingular, some years back. I had this same issue, but they actually gave me a little bit of help. They connected me to their harassment department and I gave them the info on the calls, and the calls stopped immediately. I think they blocked that number from calling my phone altogether.

Re: How To Trace A Private Call?
What's odd about Sprint is they got one of my friends to switch to them by telling him they would block the telemaketers from calling him. I don't know if they ever did, but they claimed to have. My friend eventually started working for T.A.G., which is the company Sprint outsourced their American customer care to. And after he worked for them, he dropped their service in favor of Metro PCS.
So why Sprint is changing their mind now just seems like a stupid back peddling measure on their part. They seem to be going in the opposite direction as the other carriers when it comes to customer care. But that is what happens when you fire your CC, then hire outsourced labor for less.
But hopefully you can get those calls to stop. I know how aggravating that can be.

Re: How To Trace A Private Call?
A lot of cell phone or just communication carriers in general will not provide info like that, assuming they have access to it, to protect them selves from liability. What's to stop somebody from using info like that and going after the person doing the harrassing calling and then suing sprint. They require the police report as a method of protecting them selves. It may seem stupid but it has a purpose.
