Yes you do - this is part of the deal. You either have to pay full price or finance the phone. To finance you have to go through a credit check.

I'm trying to switch from Verizon to T-Mobile. What if I wanted to get the Moto X T-mobile variant. As far as I can tell the only way to buy a T-Mobile Moto X is through Moto Maker. Can I just buy the T-Mobile Moto X from Moto Maker and go through the ETF credit process? If this is not possible, are we saying then that the ETF credit will not work if you wanted a Moto X?

From what I understand the new phone has to come from T-Mobile to be eligible for the promotion. So I guess this wouldn't be possible with the Moto x.
