What use is that? The caller has to pay not to get through to you.
With the answerphone divert off, they don't have to pay not to leave a
    message.

All you have to do is call OCS and ask them to "turn off the
autodivert to answerphone". It is important to ask for that, and not
use different words to explain what you want.

If the person you get doesn't understand, or says it can't be done,
just politely say "never mind" and call again in two minutes.

Eventually you will get one who knows their job, and will sort it for
    you in seconds.

There are two options for you. Orange can turn it off for you or you can
set what's called an extended absence greeting and at the same time you
can choose not to allow callers to leave a message - so callers can hear
a pre-recorded message from you e.g. "Please ring me back later" and
then they will not be able to leave a message.

    I would say three options
    1) Orange turn it off completely (no costs to callers)
    2) Orange cancel "automatic divert to answerphone" and then you should be
    able to control diverts
    3) setting yourself an extended absence greeting as you described

See my previous post - the option is actually called "no auto divert to
voicemail" and you have to get it enabled. If you ask them to turn off
the auto divert to voicemail they actually enable the no auto divert to
    voicemail option on your account.

Experience shows that the OCS staff usually fall into two categories:

    1. Don't understand what you're asking for and offer to do all manner
of other things, such as delete the voicemail inbox.

    2. Understand what you're asking for and understand the 'no auto divert
    to voicemail' option.

Occasionally you'll get one who doesn't understand what you want unless
you phrase it exactly the way it looks on their screen, ie "no auto
    divert to voicemail".

Thanks all,ive used this method but just recored a short blank space
rather than a message. It does the job and most importantly,i have
control of it and dont have to keep bothering OCS when i want to
    switch on/off

    thanks

You don't have to bother OCS ever again once they've enabled the no
auto-divert to voicemail on your account. You simply turn diverts on
and off from your phone in the usual way.

....and, unlike an extended absence greeting, it does not cost callers
    anything
if their call does not reach voicemail box.

When did it change the name of the product?

Why does Orange use the word "voicemail" when they have consistently
    called it "answerphone"?

Yes, you're right (it's actually Answer Phone) - the point I was making
is that you have to ENABLE an option which is 'no divert', rather than
disable a divert. If you ask OCS to cancel the auto-divert to Answer
Phone, they sometimes get confused because to achieve this they need to
enable an option on your account. The OP should ask Orange to "enable
the no auto-divert to Answer Phone option" on her account.

It didn't - it's still called "No Autodivert to answerphone"

Orange don't use the word "voicemail" normally.

Thanks. The wording I gave has always worked for me, but if that's
better, I'll suggest it in future.
