nightmare creatures,a defect?

just to make sure,is nightmare creatures a defect or what? i've downloaded the game from several different sources,but none of them have the continue option. once you quit the game,you've to restart everything over. you can't go on from where you stop. are all nightmare creatures like this? anyone have one that can continue? please post.
