it all depends on how your cell provider handles SMS, Email and MMS messages. Once you have that info (Message length and if they split up if over a certain length), from the cell carrier, then you'll have your answer.
But a short answer is:
With some cell providers, if a long SMS is sent from a phone and that phone is from the same carrier, it will split up into several messages. If the message if from another carrier it may and it may not split into more than one message.
Messages sent from the carriers online Web SMS service may also split into more than one message, if over a certain length, but will normally say so in the online directions.
Message sent from e-mail software to the cell phone will normally be limited to the message char length, that often include subject and message body, just depends on the carrier.
Now when talking about IM's that's a whole diffent can of worms (also I have a feeling this is what you may be refering to), as I think those get split up if the char length if over X numer of chars automagically.

SMS is SHORT message service. 160 characters is pretty standard for this feature. Why stress over it? Just send two messages if need be (u can key more2follow to advise the sendee, and possibly develop a code between u to shorten that, eg m2f). In my case, I do send from computer to cell, because incoming messages are free to my sendees, and I don't use the internet feature due to increased monthly costs...I am just guessing that cost containment may be a consideration. Guess what I am saying is be adjust, adapt, be creative...it's an American legacy.

I was looking for some type of software that will split the long mesages up into several messages, that way i can type a message of any length then send it to one or more recipients. without haveing to send multiple times. Just looking for a easy way to send long messages. My carrier is verizon, i was sending to t-mobile. every time i try it it cuts the message off at 160 chars and never sends the rest of the message

Re: Sending a sms/text message from internet to cell phone
I foond a software called fastsmsIII from simpleforce that is supposed to split long sms messages and sned them for you. all you have to do is config it with the numb of chars before sending, but i cant get it to work with hotmail or yahoo, it will only work with a pure smtp email client. That is why I was looking for an alternative...Thanks for your input....

If your internet provider isn't a SMTP mail client, maybe you can find or use a service by googling that will interface with the fastsmsIII???

Have you tried through MSN (if the other user has activated their free Mobile MSN) It leaves you the option to either send an IM to them or send a Text to their mobile phone through your MSN Messenger on your PC. Better than messages being web alerts and costing your friends.

My assumption is you are trying to send longer than 160 character messages, and as far I know you cant because its what phones are meant to take. Since most phones have unlimited browser for dirt cheap now, why not just send it to email and ask whoever to check your lengthy messages through there?

Hi! I think it depends on your web sms gateway provider. Try TextMagic. Maybe it will work.
