Newbie Unlock CDMA Question

Friend has LG VX 3200 that she does not need anymore. It is a Verizon phone.

Can I use it with LDPost Locus PlatinumSM Prepaid Cellular CDMA service? I called them and was told the phone has to be unlocked. Is this correct or did I misunderstand.

Or would it be better to buy a Verizon Prepaid phone and use it with the above service. My understanding is the LDPost uses the Verizon network.

Sorry if I am not using the lingo correctly.

Re: Newbie Unlock CDMA Question

The big six CDMA carriers (Sprint, Verizon, Alltel, Cricket, US Cellular, metroPCS) will almost never activate an unlocked CDMA phone. This carrier you speak of, I have never heard of, but maybe they're more lenient, but the phone probably won't work very well.

I say no.

Sorry I left out that this carrier uses the Verizon system. I guess that they must buy large blocks of time from Verizon and sell it to the consumer.

When I spoke to them they said that the phone must be unlocked. Would my friends' deactivated Verizon phone be unlocked?

They can't buy time from Verizon. GSM uses a technique called TDMA (time division multiple access), where each user's conversation is cut up in to pieces of time and played at a timeslot. Verizon uses IS-95 (or what people call CDMA), which uses the technique called CDMA (code division multiple access), where the conversation is encoded and everyone's is played at the same time.

It probably isn't unlocked. You can try and see if Verizon will give you the unlock code (how to unlock your phone) or you can see if anyone on the forums knows.

Thanks for the info.

Will ask friend to request that the phone be unlocked.

Guess I will just have to wait and see what develops.

Re: Newbie Unlock CDMA Question

Does anyone know if I need to unlock the phone I was given (LG VX 3200).

It has the Verizon logo on the phone itself and on the display. It is deactivated and is in E911 mode.

Also, can I tell if it is locked or unlocked by the display or by some other method?

Thanks in advance.
