However, I noticed I can still place a 9-1-1 emergency call on the phone even though it has no "service provider". So this got me to wondering... what else can this otherwise useless phone do?
Also, I was hoping I'd still be able to use the features of the phone like the games, calculator, etc. even though it has no SIM card, but it doesn't allow me to access anything on the phone.

It all depends on the phone, most of the phones need a sim card to access the phones applications. (even if its not active) Phones without sim card and without service can call EMERGENCY numbers only. (and no...calling your best friend is not an emergency), I belive emergency numbers are 911,112..those type of #s.

#4 | | Junior Member | I have an older Siemens phone that doesn't require to have a sim card in order to function.I'm sure that there are other ones out there.I've heard on applications that make phones to work without sims, but I can't tell you where to find them because I don't know any.Try finding yourself.
The only thing I know you can do with a no-sim blocked phone is dial for help.

I changed my avatar once I was able to have one to one of the lame-ass default ones. I'm not cool enough yet to use a custom one.
What's 112? | | |

Just like everything else... we're the only ones that use a different number apparently. 1-1-2 seems to be the standard in most places outside the US

#8 | | Sr. Member | It depends on your cell phone. Most cell phones are useless without a sim card. So it's better to have one.
