What model AT&T phones have ports to connect external antennas?

Re: External Antenna

Motorola RAZR
I now have a RAZR V3xx and the first RAZR before. There is a rubber plug on the back. Remove the plug and a service port can be seen. I have connected an external antenna here on both phones. The connector is a "pigtail" about 6" long with a RF connector. I bought the first connector from cellantennas.com and the second on in a truck stop (they have a lot of cool stuff like 12 volt blenders). Cellular antenna suppliers do not list an adapter for the v3xx, only the razr. The port on the phones are identical. The one I am now using on my v3xx was listed as being for a razr without mentioning the v3xx. The truck stop adaptor did list all the models.

I also bought a cell phone amplifier from cellantenna. I do a lot of work in very remote areas and somtimes need a little boost.
btw; I also use cellular internet and use an antenna on my Sierra Air card.

Hope this helps

Re: External Antenna

Thanks. The "technicians" at the cell phone stores develop a blank stare when ask about external antennas. Next time I go in the stores I'll check the back of the phone. My existing phone had a rubber plug on the back which did nothing but hide a screw head. I thought I had really found something

Re: External Antenna

I am not sure about any other phones except the 2 I mentioned. I have looked at others to try to discover a port but most of them don't have one.
A phone that has a stub external antenna can have an antenna connected useing a pigtail with a ring on it that slides over the stub antenna.
I agree with the blank stare. You need to befriend a repair tech. The reps in the phone stores will try to help and want you to be pleased with their companies service but ,like car salesman, they are trained only to make deal and one that does know the equipments capabilities have learned it on their own. Also, they live and work in areas with good coverage and think fringe area is the suburbs.
Today I was backpacking in an area know as the Lone Star Trail and I had phone coverage on my Razr with my ATT service and another hiker had none on her Nokia/Verison. That means that you can also check if differant service providers will let you take a phone on approval of it working at your home (if that is where you are lacking service).

Re: External Antenna

Before I went with AT&T(Cingular), I tried out the phone and although it did not work perfectly, it worked better than the Alltel phone. I can walk up the street about one block and get a great signal but right at my house and my neighbor's house, reception drops dramatically. On another forum, I saw mention that if you plug in an external antenna to the RAZR, you may permanently disable the internal antenna. Did that happen to you?

I use to know a great phone tech who could answer these questions but he moved - or quit. Every salesperson in the store almost drove him crazy by asking so many basic questions.

Thanks for your info!
