I've hard somewhere that you shouldn't let your phone drain the battery completely before charging it as this can can shorten the battery life much much faster. However you need to do this every once in a while to recalibrate it.

These are all great tips but no matter what i do I just use my to much, why have they not advanced the battery technology as far as the cell phone technology? We can watch feature lengh movies on our phones yet we don't have the battery life to suport that.

Re: Prolonging your cellphone's battery life

True, I'd recommend additional batteries. Easy to get, www.cellphonehelp.org click accessories. I paid $4.99 for an external wall charger and $7 for my replacement battery for my Samsung Moment.

    Other tips are:
    Reduce your phone brightness setting
Usually found under: Menu>Settings>Sound and Display- they reduce the brightness manually.
Or select auto Brightness, this will automatically reduce it when not in active use.

If you have an android phone then turn background data off:
Menu>Settings>Accounts and Sync> uncheck background data

Also- reduce the # of times (frequency) your email checks itself, take it to an every hour instead of every 5 minutes....

    hope this helps!

Nice and very useful article. But I believe to replace the battery in place of prolonging their life.

Re: Prolonging your cellphone's battery life

generally, we can prolong our cellphone's battery by turning it off whenever possible, like if we are in area without a good signal. There's no sense of leaving it on if there are no calls or messages that can be made.

However, things to consider is what type of battery does your phone has. Is it a Nickel-based batteries or lithium-ion batteries. Check the phone's specifications so you can maximize the utilization of the battery. Specially the usage of charger. Do not use a charger that is not specified for the cellphone, such as universal charger or like-charger. This is a big no-no! This may even over-heat and cause damage that later will completely shut the battery off.

By the time the batteries are shot, it's time for a new phone anyway.
