Re: Water proof Cell Phones
Sonim XP3 is water proof and Casio Rock says its water resistant, but the Rock can supposedly stay under a meter of water for 30 minutes.
The site wont let me post a link but its on the Casio site.Last edited by nophone; 03-10-2010 at 06:50 AM.

Re: Water proof Cell Phones
you guys have any idea how many meters deep these dive phones can swim at?

Re: Water proof Cell Phones
The Barrage is a waterproof phone but it also states 1 meter of water for 30 minutes.
I have read post that some of these phones have been 20' deep and still going, but the companies will only state 1 meter for 30 minutes.
A friend of mine has the Barrage and it took a 3'swim in the ocean, its still going a month later.
I would bet the Sonim is the toughest and will handle the deepest dives and they have a 3 year guarantee to boot.

Re: Water proof Cell Phones
Just need to throw in there as an AT&T employee, that there is no phone that is "Water Proof" the term that would be more suitable is "Water Resistant" just like they do use on watches etc... Most of these phones listed above to have a maximum submersian time and depth. Although they will hold up much better than a standard cell phone against water damage, it is possible for these phones to be water damaged as well. The biggest difference between a watch and a cell phone is think about how simple the technology of a watch is, and how complex the technology of a cell phone is. It is much easier for manufacturers to produce water proof watches than it is cell phones. Thanks everyone!

Re: Water proof Cell Phones
I have noticed that a lot of phones the used to be water proof, are now called water immersible.
The Casio Rock is rated at water resistant but can be immersed in 1 meter for 30 minutes.
When a company says there product is water proof , then they have to stand behind that and replace a water damaged phone. When they advertise water resistant, they don't have to replace a water damaged phone.
Hopefully most buyers will read up and understand the difference. I don't plan on swimming with any phone, even if it said it was water proof. But I see people buy a $400.00 Sonim and run it though the washing machine(on youtube) to see if it still works.Last edited by nophone; 03-14-2010 at 10:59 PM.

Re: Water proof Cell Phones
Motorola Tundra is water proof and very good
Samsung Rugby (same as above)
Nokia Classic 3720 (same as above)
Those are excellent GSM phones.
CDMA phones are useless and not recommended due to backward technology
GSM is versatile and the wave of the future

Re: Water proof Cell Phones
I would avoid the G'zOne Brigade. I'm on my 2nd one, getting ready to call and complain for the same problem. Mine has a habit of shutting itself off and rebooting when typing a text. Haven't water tested this one or the other one, but the other one held up to the dust and temperatures (hi temp and low temp) while removing some refractory from a steel mill furnace at roughly 300 degrees F.

Re: Water proof Cell Phones
Since my last post I bought a Tundra for myself and a Sonim XP1 plus a Rugby for my Boys.
I really like the Tundra and the Rugby, the Sonim died a premature death after about a month.
My Father is needing a phone and I think I will give Straight Talk a try, since they use Verizon's towers.
His/my house keeper has Straight Talk and is thoroughly pleased.

Re: Water proof Cell Phones
Divers watch would say water proof.. but cell phones.. Im not sure about that.. if it has a case with capability of completely sealing it out.. then perhaps thats possible, including the lcd to be water proof too..
