    Here's my thoughts on the topic. A considerable amount of extra engineering would have to be put into making the phone waterproof - it's easier to just rebuild a phone or make a new one and give it to an insurance company to give to the customer.

    I'm sure this also inflates sales numbers. I'm sure it is somehow worked into the business model. I'm also sure that if cell phones were indestructible people wouldn't need to replace them as often, cell phone insurance companies wouldn't make money, and cell phone companies wouldn't sell as many phones because people wouldn't need to replace them.

    What do you think?

    Making them waterproof would make them more expensive. There are some tough models around, though:
    - wanted to post a few links but not allowed to, apparently - search Google for "toughest phone" and you'll find some.

    I concur, this would also apply to laptops, cameras and so many other devices.

    Phones going swimming (as I call it ) is probably the biggest reason people need to get a new phone.

    One way to save a drowned phone is;

    1. Remove the battery ASAP!
    2. Do not turn it back on untill it is completly dried out!
    3. Get a jar full of rice or some of those do not eat moisture packets you get with some products and bury the phone in it with the battery and cover removed for at least 24 hours.

    If you get it dry before trying to fire it back up there is abot a 70% chance it will be fine!

    Re: Why aren't cell phones waterproof?

    My 5yr old GPS floats and I can read the screen when I'm outdoors and did not cost a fortune. Cell phone providers are more interested in producing revenue by adding features that they can charge extra for than a phone for those of us that want a SIMPLE PHONE to make telephone calls with. The last rugged "military spec" phone I looked at was expensive, bulky and the screen was not readable in daylight. I wish they still made the Motorola Star Tac, which most of you probably don't remember....

    its just one of their loopholes. it would be nice to have a water proof iphone or top of te line phone without necessarily making it bulky or ugly.

    This is why Nanoflow X has come up with a solution to make all cell phones waterproof. Well, IPX67 waterproof which can withstand the phone being submerged under 1 meter of water for up to 30 minutes! Let us know what you think, we will be spreading our services nationwide soon enough. Look out for us!
