Since I replaced my landline with a cellphone, I miss my landline. I had several wireless phones connected to it and scattered around the house so that I could hear a call wherever I was (and answer it easily). With a cellphone I feel constrained having to keep it next to me the entire time I'm in the house while I'm moving from room to room, upstairs, downstairs, wearing pjamas or boxer shorts (no pockets or belt). I wonder if there isn't some way to rig up a device that will tell me when my cell phone is ringing when I'm not in the same room. Maybe it could pick up the audio of the ringtone and broadcast it. I wonder if a baby monitor would do? Any ideas would be appreciated.

You might be interested in a bluetooth home phone system. Your cell phone can be near the base unit of the home phone, and it will ring multiple phones just as if it was a landline. You can find some information through Best Buy: Bluetooth Cordless Phone System - BestBuy

You're welcome. I think it's a great setup, especially for older people who don't like using a cell phone but like the cheaper price and the portability.
