Enable Battery Saving Mode:
- Open the apps drawer
- Go to Settings
- Swipe to Device
- Tap Battery > Menu
- Tap to enable Battery saver
Disable Wi-Fi, Hotspot, Bluetooth, and GPS:
NOTE: To improve battery life in the long run you can disable your phones connectivity features when they are not in use. This includes Wi-Fi, Hotspot, Bluetooth, and GPS.
- Swipe the notification bar down
- Tap the tiles associated with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth to disable these features
- Go to Settings
- Under Personal tap Location
- Tap Mode and select Battery saving (for GPS)
- Return to Settings and tap More under wireless & networks
- Tap Tethering & portable hotspot and disable Wi-Fi hotspot
Lower the Screen Brightness and Timeout Duration:
- Access the Settings menu
- Swipe to Device
- Tap Display
- If necessary, disable Automatic brightness
- Tap Brightness level
- Drag the brightness slider towards the left
Change the Sync Settings for Apps / Accounts:
NOTE: You can improve battery life in the long run by setting your apps or accounts to sync less data / less often.
- Open the apps drawer and go to Settings
- Under Personal, tap Accounts
- Select the desired account
- Tap the green Sync icon
- Select the desired sync options and disable at your leisure
Minimize the Use of Third Party Apps:
NOTE: Certain third party applications can affect your phones battery performance even if you dont use them assuming that they run regular processes in the background. As such you can improve battery life by disabling or removing unused third party applications.
- Access the Settings menu
- Scroll to Device and tap Apps
- Swipe to Downloaded if necessary
- Select the desired app
- Tap Disable
- Alternatively, tap Uninstall > OK
Switch from 4G to 2G:
- Go to Settings
- Tap More under Wireless & networks
- Tap Cellular networks > Preferred network type
- Select 2G
Keep Your Phone Updated:
NOTE: Software updates can oftentimes include improvements to battery management, so you should keep your phone up to date. You can manually check for updates by performing the following:
- Open the apps drawer
- Access Settings
- Scroll to and tap About phone
- Tap System updates and if applicable, follow the on-screen steps to install the newer OS version
