Enable Battery Saving Mode:

  1. Open the apps drawer
  2. Go to “Settings”
  3. Swipe to “Device”
  4. Tap “Battery” > “Menu”
  5. Tap to enable “Battery saver”

Disable Wi-Fi, Hotspot, Bluetooth, and GPS:

NOTE: To improve battery life in the long run you can disable your phone’s connectivity features when they are not in use. This includes Wi-Fi, Hotspot, Bluetooth, and GPS.

  1. Swipe the notification bar down
  2. Tap the tiles associated with “Wi-Fi” and “Bluetooth” to disable these features
  3. Go to “Settings”
  4. Under “Personal” tap “Location”
  5. Tap “Mode” and select “Battery saving” (for GPS)
  6. Return to “Settings” and tap “More” under “wireless & networks”
  7. Tap “Tethering & portable hotspot” and disable “Wi-Fi hotspot”

Lower the Screen Brightness and Timeout Duration:

  1. Access the “Settings” menu
  2. Swipe to “Device”
  3. Tap “Display”
  4. If necessary, disable “Automatic brightness”
  5. Tap “Brightness level”
  6. Drag the brightness slider towards the left

Change the Sync Settings for Apps / Accounts:

NOTE: You can improve battery life in the long run by setting your apps or accounts to sync less data / less often.

  1. Open the apps drawer and go to “Settings”
  2. Under “Personal”, tap “Accounts”
  3. Select the desired account
  4. Tap the green “Sync” icon
  5. Select the desired sync options and disable at your leisure

Minimize the Use of Third Party Apps:

NOTE: Certain third party applications can affect your phone’s battery performance even if you don’t use them – assuming that they run regular processes in the background. As such you can improve battery life by disabling or removing unused third party applications.

  1. Access the “Settings” menu
  2. Scroll to “Device” and tap “Apps”
  3. Swipe to “Downloaded” if necessary
  4. Select the desired app
  5. Tap “Disable”
  6. Alternatively, tap “Uninstall” > “OK”

Switch from 4G to 2G:

  1. Go to “Settings”
  2. Tap “More” under “Wireless & networks”
  3. Tap “Cellular networks” > “Preferred network type”
  4. Select “2G”

Keep Your Phone Updated:

NOTE: Software updates can oftentimes include improvements to battery management, so you should keep your phone up to date. You can manually check for updates by performing the following:

  1. Open the apps drawer
  2. Access “Settings”
  3. Scroll to and tap “About phone”
  4. Tap “System updates” and if applicable, follow the on-screen steps to install the newer OS version
