Back Up & Restore App Data:
- On the home screen, tap “Apps”
- Go to “Settings”
- Tap “Backup & reset” under “Personal”
- Enable “Back up my data” to back up Wi-Fi passwords, account data, and settings to your Google account
- Enable “Automatic restore”
NOTE: App data will be automatically restored upon signing in with the Google account used to back up data.
Back Up & Restore Contacts using Your Google Account:
- Open the apps drawer
- Launch “Settings”
- Tap “Accounts” and select the account you want to use for syncing your contacts
- Tap “Menu” > “Sync now”
NOTE: Contacts backed up using this method will be restored automatically upon signing in with the Google account used initially for the backup.
Back Up Media Files on a Windows Computer:
- Connect the Nexus 6P to your computer via USB
- Swipe the “Notification” bar down and make sure the phone is connected as a “Media device (MTP)”
- Open an Explorer window on the computer
- Locate the media files on your phone, and copy them
- Navigate to the desired backup location on your computer and paste the files
- Once the transfer is done, eject the phone storage from the system tray
- Safely disconnect the phone from the USB connector
Restore Media Files from a Windows Computer:
- Establish a USB connection between the computer and your Nexus 6P
- Make sure the phone is connected as a “Media device (MTP)”
- Open an Explorer window on the computer
- Locate the media files backed up on your computer’s HDD
- Copy the files, and transfer them back on your phone storage, preferably in the “Media” directory
- After the transfer is complete, eject the phone storage from the system tray, and safely disconnect the phone from the USB connector
