Turn On Battery Saving Mode:

  1. Open the phone’s “Settings” menu
  2. Under “Device”, tap “Battery”
  3. Tap “Menu”
  4. Turn on “Battery saver”

Disable Screen Brightness and Timeout Duration:

  1. Access “Settings”
  2. Scroll to “Device”
  3. Tap “Display” and turn off “Adaptive brightness” if necessary
  4. Tap “Brightness level”
  5. Drag the slider towards the left of the screen to decrease luminosity
  6. Go to “Display” and tap “Sleep”
  7. Choose a lower timeout value, such as “15 seconds”

Turn Off Wi-Fi, Hotspot, GPS, and Bluetooth When Unused:

NOTE: By turning off the phone’s connectivity features when they are not used, (such as Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, and Hotspot) you can improve battery life in the long run.

  1. Drag the “Status” bar down on the home screen
  2. Tap the tiles associated with “Bluetooth”, “Wi-Fi” and “Location” to disable them
  3. Next, go to “Settings”
  4. For more GPS options, tap “Location” > “Mode” and select “Battery saving”
  5. To disable Hotspot, return to “Settings”
  6. Under “Wireless & networks”, tap “More”
  7. Turn off “Tethering & Mobile Hotspot”

Use 2G Networks:

NOTE: In case your phone runs low on battery and you don’t have access to a battery bank / wall socket, you can conserve battery life by temporarily switching to 2G. To do this:

  1. Go to “Settings”
  2. Under “Wireless & Networks”, tap “More”
  3. Tap “Mobile networks” > “Preferred network type”
  4. Select “2G”

Reduce Sync:

NOTE: By reducing sync, you can improve battery life in the long run. To do this:

  1. First go to “Settings”
  2. Scroll to “Personal” and tap “Accounts”
  3. Select an account type and choose the account whose sync settings you want to change
  4. Turn off the desired sync options and tap “Menu” > “Sync now” to refresh your account’s sync settings

Switch From a Live Wallpaper to a Static One:

NOTE: Live wallpapers can have a negative effect on battery life, especially those that are greatly animated and require more CPU / GPU activity. As such, switching to a static wallpaper (picture) can save up battery life in the long run.

  1. Tap and hold an empty area on the home screen
  2. Tap “Wallpapers” at the bottom
  3. Scroll through the wallpapers at the bottom and select one, or choose a picture from “My photos”
  4. When ready, tap “Set wallpaper” at the top

Minimize Third Party App Usage:

NOTE: Certain third party apps perform regular background processes, and thus they can affect battery life even when they are not in use. By turning off or removing unused third party apps, you can improve battery life in the long run.

  1. Open the “Settings” menu
  2. Tap “Apps” under “Device”
  3. Go to “Downloaded”
  4. Select the desired app and tap “Disable” / “Force Stop” to turn off the app
  5. To remove the application, tap “Uninstall” > “OK”

NOTE: Tests have shown that the Facebook and Facebook Messenger applications can have a large impact on battery life, so if possible, it’s recommended to uninstall these apps from your phone, and perhaps use Facebook Lite instead.

Keep the OS Updated:

NOTE: Software updates can include improvements to battery life, so by keeping your phone’s software up to date you can usually extract the most performance out of your battery.

  1. Open “Settings”
  2. Scroll down to “System”
  3. Tap “About phone” > “System update”
  4. If an update is available, follow the on-screen steps to download and apply it
