WARNING! When you factory reset your phone, all personal data located on the device’s internal memory will be deleted. This includes contacts, media files, downloaded content, apps, ringtones etc. In addition, all settings will be restored to factory values, but data located on the SD and SIM cards will not be deleted.

NOTE: Before you factory reset your phone, you can visit this thread for instructions on how to back up and restore data.

Factory Reset via Settings:

  1. Open the apps drawer
  2. Go to “Settings
  3. Tap “Backup & reset” > “Factory data reset
  4. Read the “Warning” pop-up and tap “Reset phone
  5. If your device is protected by a lock screen, enter your password / PIN / pattern and tap “Continue
  6. Tap “Erase everything

Factory Reset via Android System Recovery:

NOTE: In case your phone freezes, crashes, or otherwise prevents you from resetting it via settings, you can, alternatively, reset the device via the Android System Recovery menu, which can be accessed by performing a combination of button presses.

  1. Make sure the phone is turned off
  2. Press and hold “Power” and “Volume Up” simultaneously
  3. At the “Android” logo, release the buttons
  4. After you gain access to the “Android System Recovery” menu, press “Volume Down” repeatedly to navigate to and highlight “wipe data / factory reset
  5. Press “Power” and select the highlighted option
  6. Use “Volume down” to highlight “Yes – delete all user data” and press “Power
  7. Once the phone restarts, “Reboot system now” will be highlighted
  8. Press “Power” to confirm and restart your device

Check for Software Updates:

NOTE: Once you factory reset your phone, it’s recommended to verify if new software updates are available for download. To do so:

  1. Open the apps drawer
  2. Launch “Settings
  3. Scroll down to “System” and tap “About Phone
  4. Tap “System update
  5. If an update is available, follow the on-screen prompts to download and install it. NOTE: the process may require you to reboot your phone
